Hudl launch an enhanced Statsbomb analysis platform, integrating Wyscout’s unparalleled video library with Statsbomb’s industry-leading data and analytics.
Advanced analytics next to integrated match footage
As of today, an enhanced, purpose-built Statsbomb analysis platform is available to customers, integrating Wyscout’s unparalleled video library with Statsbomb’s industry-leading data and analytics: two industry giants coming together in a way that is only possible at Hudl.
Recruitment workflows have previously been disjointed and fragmented, forcing users to switch between platforms and solutions to collect all the information they need to make informed decisions. Now, in the new platform, they can perform talent identification, video scouting, clip generation and playlist creation all in one unified solution that will save analysts and scouts hours every single week.
The video element has been integrated all over the new experience, designed to be available at every stage of the scouting and analysis process.
The new recruitment workflow
In the initial longlisting stage, scouts want to create a list of players that are worthy of further investigation and fit the profile of player their team is looking for. The new Player Scout, a search and filtering tool, can be used to narrow down a universe of players into a list that fits the criteria the scout has selected, with filters such as age, position played, competition/season, preferred foot, and performance in certain key metrics. Once a shortlist has been built, users can select the important metrics and instantly validate their findings with video clips of each metric and a quick overview of a player’s skillset.
For the most detailed analysis and scouting, users can harness the new data locker. This is where bespoke queries can be built, with the flexibility of the new platform allowing users to look at the most granular aspects of a player or team’s performance in detail. For example:
- A centre back’s aerial duels in the penalty box
- A winger’s dribbles and ball carries from the touchline to the penalty box
- A centre forward’s aerial passes received
- A goalkeeper’s cross claim attempts
- A team’s counterpressing actions
- A team’s corners taken or corners faced from the last 5 or 10 matches or since a date that the user can specify
This is where analysts and scouts can perform detailed video analysis on the aspects of team and player performance that matter to their game model, and build out their suite of searches for those repeated workflows that they need week-after-week.
Playlist Building
No video-integrated solution would be complete without the ability to build and access video playlists on demand. We know from our industry experience and speaking with customers that this is arguably the most important feature for recruitment analysts and scouts that are building out their knowledge and dossiers of players all year round.
Our playlist building function enables users to build specific video playlists - whether they be a player’s best or worst actions, or clips of their actions in a specific attribute or game situation, for example - and save those playlists to be added to over time. The tool gives analysts the power to query the data for the insights that matter to them, turn them into video, and build out their knowledge of a target.
Enhanced visualisations and quality of life features
The integrated platform also comes with a raft of modern upgrades to improve the time and quality of an analyst's work. There are new flexible visualisation tools within the pitch selector, where users can choose the type of viz that best suits the message they are trying to convey. There’s improvements to data context, with the ability to view a player’s performance data based on the position they played in, meaning comparisons can now be made on a player’s performance on the left wing vs the right wing, for example. There’s the ability to customise the date range and sample size of the data you’re viewing, such as one season, a recent date period, or multiple seasons of data in one visualisation.
All setups can be saved for repeated use and easy, fast access. The platform has been built by analysts, for analysts, and will improve the lives of our customers every single day of the week through new video integration, flexible customisation, fast insights, and removing the need to switch between platforms and providers.
