Three Talents from Scandinavia to Keep an Eye On in 2026

8 min Read

With the new seasons in Sweden and Norway already underway, we use Hudl Wyscout to take a look at some of the most promising talents

Leagues around Europe are reaching the business end of the season – but in Scandinavia things are just heating up.

The Swedish Allsvenskan and Norwegian Eliteserien are two of over 600 competitions featured on Hudl Wyscout, the world’s largest football video library, and year-on-year they both provide a platform for talented young players to rise to the fore.

With that in mind, let’s interrogate the video to see which up-and-coming prospects could rise up the ranks of scouting shortlists around the continent.

Zadok Yohanna: Nigeria’s Teen Sensation Lighting Up Swedish Football

At just 18 years old, Zadok Yohanna has become one of the most exciting prospects to emerge from Nigeria in recent years. His dazzling performances for AIK in Sweden’s Allsvenskan league have captured the attention of fans, scouts, and analysts across Europe.

For a player who was virtually unknown only a year ago, Yohanna’s meteoric rise is both a testament to natural talent and an indicator of Nigeria’s consistent talent mill.

Early Life and Journey from Nigeria to Sweden

At the age of 12, he left home to pursue his dream in Kabun, enrolling at the Ikon Allah Football Academy. It was here that Yohanna’s natural aptitude for dribbling, pace, and creativity quickly stood out. Coaches described him as a “focused learner,” always eager to train longer than his teammates. By 2025, word of his performances had reached European scouts scouring Nigeria in search of undiscovered gems. Among several interested clubs, it was Swedish giants AIK who moved the fastest, sealing his signature in June 2025.

Zadok Yohanna’s rise is more than a case of youthful promise — it signals the emergence of a player built for modern football. Standing at 1.81 meters, Yohanna plays primarily as a right winger, though his versatility allows him to drift centrally as an attacking midfielder. A natural left-footer, a look at the tape shows how he thrives when cutting inside to shoot or thread passes through compact defences.

This sequence shows his vision, dribbling ability, pace and ability to score a great finish against Hacken.

Breaking Through at AIK

Yohanna’s integration into Swedish football was remarkably smooth. He made his AIK debut on August 17, 2025, coming on as a late substitute against IFK Göteborg at Gamla Ullevi. Though brief, when you watch clips of the game, you see that he showed flashes of composure beyond his age. Only three days later, he earned his first full start in a 7–0 Svenska Cupen qualifying win over Hudiksvalls FF. That early exposure to European football set the foundation for what was to come.

By March 2026, Yohanna was no longer just a promising recruit — he was a match-winner. In a Swedish Cup clash against BK Häcken, the Nigerian winger delivered a performance that electrified the Strawberry Arena crowd. He scored twice, combining a low curler from outside the box with a perfectly timed finish inside the penalty area, guiding AIK to a 4–0 victory. A week later, he found the net again against GAIS, rounding off a breakout campaign in the Cup with four goals in just five matches.

His Allsvenskan debut on April 5th this year elevated him from potential to phenomenon. Against Halmstads BK, Yohanna put on a masterclass in attacking football — completing ten successful dribbles, winning seventeen duels, and scoring the decisive goal in the 83rd minute.

That electric start to the 2026 season has shown no signs of slowing down. As well as ranking highly for touches in the box, offensive duels and dribbling success rate, watching him displays a warrior-like mentality, maturity beyond his years and is surprisingly strong. Added to his technical qualities and his desire to progress the ball, either by passing or carrying the ball forward, and you have a well-rounded attacking weapon.

This sequence against Halmstad demonstrates his ability to latch onto a pass, win a clear offensive duel and show his strength. He can then progress the attack more by offering the ‘give and go’ option.

According to AIK’s head of scouting, Fredrik Wisur Hansen, Yohanna boasts “an impressive range of strengths, including his acceleration, one-on-one ability, and refined left foot.”

His comfort in tight spaces and quick decision-making have drawn comparisons to players like Ángel Di María and Arjen Robben, though Yohanna’s technique possesses a distinctly African flair; spontaneous, expressive, and fearless. Top clubs across Europe have reportedly already been monitoring his progress closely. He looks destined for potential greatness.

Abubacarr Sedi Kinteh: The "Gambian Wall"

In the rapidly evolving landscape of modern football, finding a teenage defender who possesses both physical dominance and tactical maturity is a rare feat.

However, Abubacarr Sedi Kinteh has quickly emerged as one of the most talked-about prospects in not just Scandinavian football, but European football as a whole.

At just 19 years old, the Gambian centre-back has transitioned from a promising academy talent to a high-value target for Europe’s elite clubs, earning the nickname "The Gambian Wall."

Early Beginnings and the Move to Norway

Kinteh’s journey to the professional stage began at the Mawade Wade Academy in Senegal. His talent was evident early on, prompting Norwegian side Tromsø to invite him for a trial in February 2025.

Kinteh didn't just pass the trial; he excelled. By March 2025, he signed a five-year contract with the Eliteserien club. His impact was immediate. Standing at 1.86m tall, Kinteh brought a rare combination of left-footed precision and raw physical power to the Tromsø backline. He made his league debut against KFUM Oslo and quickly became a permanent fixture in the starting XI.

A Breakthrough 2025 Season

Kinteh’s debut season in Norway was nothing short of meteoric. Within just three games, his performances were so dominant that Tromsø reportedly turned down a €5 million offer from an undisclosed club, a figure that would have shattered the club's transfer record.

Watching clips of him on Wyscout, you quickly see that he has elite recovery pace, aerial dominance, and a great high-intensity dueling ratio.

Beyond those qualities, it is Kinteh's "no-nonsense", proactive defensive style that has won over scouts. While many modern defenders focus heavily on ball progression, Kinteh excels in the "dark arts" of defending—marking, tackling, and positioning. These are elements which only truly come through in the video, so verifying the stats with footage is key when assessing defenders.

On top of his defensive qualities, Kinteh is also a really strong long range passer. Tromsø are not afraid to use more direct tactics if required and Kinteh fits that directive perfectly. He ranks in the top 5 for progressive passes, deep completions and deep completed crosses. His vision and long ball delivery are a major weapon and this is something which certain types of big clubs value immensely.

Transfer Rumours and the Path Ahead

Kinteh’s club success naturally led to a call-up for The Gambia national team, making his senior international debut last October. His inclusion in the national squad at such a young age underscores his status as the future cornerstone of The Scorpions' defence.

As of Spring 2026, the hype surrounding Kinteh has reached a fever pitch. Major European powerhouses, including top Premier League, have been linked to the defender. His market value has surged to an estimated €7 million, a testament to his rapid development in the Eliteserien. But that fee could double if there is a bidding war for him.

Much like Yohana, Abubacarr Sedi Kinteh represents the new wave of African defensive talent, taking their first steps in Scandinavia before quickly gaining wider acclaim. Now a steady pipeline, Kinteh and Yohana are just the latest examples – and won’t be the last.

Whether Kinteh remains at Tromsø to continue his development or makes a blockbuster move to a top league, one thing is certain: the football world is watching. If he maintains his current trajectory, Kinteh is destined to become not just a Gambian icon, but one of the premier defenders in world football.

Filip Thorvaldsen: The Rising Star of Norwegian Football

In the landscape of modern Norwegian football, where talents like Erling Haaland and Martin Ødegaard have set a sky-high bar, a new generation is beginning to make its mark.

Among the most exciting prospects is Filip Erik Thorvaldsen, a dynamic winger whose technical flair and rapid ascent at Vålerenga have made him one of the most talked-about youngsters in the Eliteserien.

Early Beginnings and the Vålerenga Academy

Thorvaldsen’s journey is a testament to the strength of the Norwegian youth system. He joined the prestigious Vålerenga academy at the age of 12, a move that would define his developmental years. His talent was evident early on; a left-footed player who primarily operates as a right winger, Thorvaldsen combines the traditional "inverted winger" profile with modern athleticism.

2025: Establishing Elite Status

Thorvaldsen cemented his reputation as a "rising star." His statistics for the 2025 Eliteserien campaign highlight his productivity with 5 goals and 2 assists in 21 appearances and logging over 1,300 minutes. Watching footage of him play, his ability to take on defenders and his maturity in the final third stand out – drawning comparisons to some of the league's best wide players.

He tops the Eliteserien for dribbles so far in the 2026 season, averaging 10.36 per 90 mins and with an impressive success rate over 50%.

The sequence above demonstrates his dribbling ability, constantly weaving and moving in different directions to stretch defenders. He is predominantly right footed, but his left foot has been readily improving to a very serviceable level as this clip shows.

The one word which is always associated with Thorvaldsen is ‘technique’. A quick look at Wyscout and you see how he excels in this area and, combined with his natural flair, it makes him an incredibly dangerous individual.

Perhaps one area he could improve is decision making, but that is often naturally the case with someone his age. But nevertheless, he has the cornerstones of an exceptional technique which can go a long way in the footballing world.

He is on the radar of several big European clubs who have the potential to strike this summer, even if the best fit for him is to probably stay the whole season in Norway with Vålerenga.
