Studio Notes 01: New Tools, Built on Your Requests

Studio Notes is a new series of regular product updates for Hudl Sportscode Studio. Edition 01 is out now, and it ships the improvements users have requested most: a new drawing tool, automatic team colors from Wyscout, in-clip screenshot capture, reusable presets, and safer round-trips between Sportscode and Studio. Alongside all the new features, the platform has also been modernized for stability.

Automatic Team Colors from Hudl Wyscout

Every match week brings a new opponent, and until now that meant manually setting team colors for every graphic in the presentation. Rosters imported from Wyscout now automatically carry each team's primary and secondary colors into Studio, so graphics pick up the correct identity for both sides on import. This was one of the most frequent requests from analysts. One time-consuming step disappears from every deck built under match-week pressure, and presentations look right in front of coaches and players without anyone touching a color picker. 

A New Dribble Line Tool

Telestration lives or dies on how clearly a tactical idea reads on video. A new tool for drawing dribble lines expands the options for marking up movement, spacing and structure, so the concept on screen matches the one in the analyst's head.

Screenshots, Straight from the Clip

Using a specific frame in a presentation used to mean capturing it outside Studio and importing it like any other image, a tedious interruption repeated dozens of times per deck. Insert image now includes screenshot capture. Grab the exact frame you need from the clip you are working on and place it in your presentation without leaving Studio. Captured frames are saved with your assets, so a moment you grab once can be reused across the deck and in future sessions. The workflow stays in one tool, and the flow stays unbroken.

Your Presets, Saved and Reusable

Recurring graphics used to be rebuilt from scratch, presentation after presentation, and every analyst rebuilt them slightly differently. Custom thumbnails, presets and visual assets can now be saved and reused across projects. Build a style once and apply it everywhere. For departments where several analysts feed the same coaching staff, that means faster builds and output that looks consistent no matter who made it, exactly what raises the credibility of the work in the meeting room.

Safer Round-Trips with Sportscode

Few things cost an analyst more than losing finished work. Until now, a clip sent from Sportscode to Studio stayed tied to its original: edit or delete the source, and the telestrated version in your presentation could go with it. Clips sent to Studio are now independent copies. No matter what happens upstream in Sportscode, the work in your presentation stays intact. You can clean up your Sportscode timeline freely, without treating it as the fragile foundation of tomorrow's meeting.

Under the Hood

Most of the work in this release is invisible. Core packages and components have been updated across the board, with priority on stability and on the Sportscode integration that powers the daily analyst workflow. The payoff is fewer broken hand-offs between coding and presentation and a foundation that future editions of Studio Notes can build on without carrying old debt.

What's Next

More editions are already in progress. Selection will keep following the same rule as this one: reliability first, most requested improvements next. If there is something you want to see in Studio, tell your CSM or your Hudl contact. This release exists because users did exactly that.

A reminder for teams still on Studio v1: v1 will no longer be supported, and all new development will land in Studio v2 only. Apple has also announced that starting with macOS 28, expected in fall 2027, applications built for Intel will no longer run on Apple Silicon Macs, and Studio v1 is among them. More details on moving to v2 will follow in a dedicated communication.
