Building Confidence through Mentorship
Starting as a new engineer, Delos Reyes faced imposter syndrome—which she said is a common struggle among new engineers. She didn’t feel confident in her technical opinion. But at Hudl, she quickly realized, unique perspectives are always valued.
“After meeting with some mentors, they let me know that the reason why I'm here is to give my diverse opinion, my unique perspective on something, and that helped me build my confidence over time to be a very opinionated, talkative engineer,” Delos Reyes said.
Mentorship was extremely important to Delos Reyes, and she made sure her leadership knew that when she started. This gave her the chance to start off with a very experienced guide in the field. And that mentorship helped her build quite a few skills.
“Building my technical voice, building my confidence, knowing when to step away from a project and when to take a break. It's all those skills. And it was that trusted relationship with [my mentor] that really shaped my career at Hudl,” Delos Reyes said.
Speaking Up and Finding Purpose
The support from her teammates helped Delos Reyes find the best path for her at Hudl. Early in her career, she was working on internal platforms—but she quickly realized she missed the connection with coaches and athletes.
“I wanted to be close to the end user, closer to coaches and athletes,” said Delos Reyes. “That's why I wanted to be at a sports company, to work with those end users.”
After talking with her manager, she was able to transition to a position where she could make a bigger direct impact. At Hudl, where you start usually isn’t where you end up—and that’s by design.
“Knowing my manager listened to me, I’m very proud of speaking up.”
Relying on Hudl’s Collaborative Culture
Teamwork is a cornerstone for sports—and for Hudl. Which is one of the main reasons Hudl’s engineering team stands out.
“We're always on calls trying to go through problems together, and it's that teamwork that helps us solve fast, build fast, and I really appreciate that collaboration—that emphasis on team and squad work,” Delos Reyes said.
The trust between Delos Reyes and her teammates is common across the company. It’s what allows for Hudl’s flexible work policy.
Delos Reyes can balance in-person collaboration with remote working. And with two Nebraska-based offices, she splits her time between Hudl’s Omaha office and the Lincoln headquarters, which offers her favorite space to work from: a cozy solo pod with views of downtown Lincoln and Memorial Stadium.
