Have questions about Focus Point?

We have the answers.

General

We engineer much of our own hardware, and find strategic partners to supplement our product ecosystem to deliver the best capture solution for our customers. These cameras are made by a third party in partnership with Hudl, then integrated with our software, allowing you to automatically connect to your Hudl account.

Because we integrate this camera with Hudl software, you can only purchase them through Hudl. And the software is the key—it’s what connects this camera to Hudl, making it possible to get a lot of the same functionality as our other Focus cameras. This includes direct uploads to your Hudl library, control of recordings and livestreams from the Focus app, and access to our world-class Support team.

PoE is a technique used to combine a data port and power. The main difference you may notice is that Focus Point cameras don’t have a main power plug.

Yes, it counts towards storage, same as any other video uploaded to your account.

Football

The Focus Point LR is specifically designed to capture high-quality end zone film. While the standard Outdoor Focus camera captures the sideline view, the "LR" (Long Range) features a powerful zoom to provide the level of detail coaches need from the end zone. It integrates directly into the Hudl ecosystem, allowing for automatic uploads and the ability to manually control the camera during practices to film specific drills.

No. One of the primary benefits of the Focus Point LR is that it eliminates the need for a camera operator. It offers automatic capture and is designed to follow the tackle box during games. Because it is a fixed setup that is "always ready," you save time on game day and during practice by avoiding the need to haul out manual camera towers or assign a staff member to film.

To ensure the best film quality and connectivity, your program is responsible for the following infrastructure:

  • Mounting: A sturdy, permanent structure (like a scoreboard pole) located 5ft–250ft behind the endline, at a height of 15ft–30ft.
  • Power: A standard 120 VAC power outlet near the mounting location.
  • Network: A stable internet connection with at least 15 Mbps upload speed per camera.
  • Compatibility: You must have an existing Hudl Outdoor Focus Camera on the same local network (LAN) for the two cameras to discover each other and sync automatically.

Think of it as an evolution of your workflow rather than a total replacement.

  • At Home: The Focus Point LR acts as your primary solution, providing a permanent, stable infrastructure that automates the delivery of clips to iPads via Focus Replay.
  • On the Road: Since the Focus Point LR is a fixed installation, your Hudl Sideline kit remains your go-to tool for capturing instant replay during away games where fixed infrastructure isn't available.

Baseball & Softball

Focus Outdoor can only be permanently mounted on a press box, which many baseball and softball teams don’t have. It also has AI-tracking designed to follow movement across a long field, which doesn’t apply to these baseball and softball. We designed Focus Point to give baseball and softball teams the angle they needed behind home plate, at an affordable price. We did test Focus Flex for this need, but ultimately decided a portable camera didn’t provide the stability necessary for the home plate placement.

This cost will depend on your location, but from our research, you can expect it to cost approximately $1,500–$3,000 to set up on a pole or in a press box.

Good news! Focus Point is designed to be highly rated for impact (IK10). This means it should withstand 20 joules of impact. We’ve estimated there’s a possibility of damage if it’s hit directly with a very fast moving ball, but the likelihood is extremely low. The most vulnerable camera position is in front of the net or fence on a pole mount, but you can mount it higher to help keep the camera safe. When it comes to accidental damage to the camera, customers will be responsible for covering the charges for any replacements needed—manufacturing problems, such as faulty hardware will be covered under warranty.

Volleyball

It would be possible to record from two Focus Point cameras on the same court, but it would create separate video feeds, uploaded as separate schedule entries, and both would count against storage. These cameras cannot connect to one another—multi-angle functionality is only possible when combined with Focus Indoor.

Focus Point and Focus Indoor can be seamlessly connected to provide multiple angles of the same action. By unlocking multi-cam functionality, you can flip between the Focus Point endline angle and Focus Indoor sideline angle live during the game, or postgame in your Hudl account.

Not yet. Focus Point is currently integrated with Hudl. We have a different camera system that integrates with Volleymetrics.
