Data in Scouting and Performance: Expert Insights from Galatasaray’s Marco Fumagalli
After a well-deserved break for lunch, the afternoon kicked off with one of the event’s keynote speeches. Marco Fumagalli, Chief Analyst at current Turkish champions Galatasaray, delivered a standout talk on the impact of data integration in high-performance scouting.
“Scouting is evolving, but it hasn’t lost its essence; data doesn’t replace the human eye, it enhances it,” Fumagalli explained. “The goal is not to replace the scout but to amplify their capabilities through intelligent and accessible tools. Now more than ever, it is essential to combine field expertise with analytical skills.”
Fumagalli also stressed the importance of patience and context when adopting video and data: “Building a data-driven culture requires time, trust, and leadership—it's a process, not an imposition. And when talking about data-driven scouting it doesn’t mean talking only about numbers, but also about context, vision, and sustainability.”
"The future of scouting belongs to those who can turn data into insights."
Getting the Complete Picture: The Importance of Physical Data
Gabriele Gnecco, Hudl Senior Solutions Consultant, took to the stage to demonstrate how Hudl Physical Data, derived from broadcast video tracking, gives teams valuable extra context that enables them to compare league standards through physical metrics, and combine with technical performance metrics to provide a complete view of a player's performance.
Hudl Statsbomb: Advanced Metrics for Next-Level Player and Team Evaluation
Irene Martinez returned for the final demonstration of the day, highlighting how Hudl Statsbomb’s advanced metrics - such as On-Ball Value and Pressure Maps - empower better recruitment and tactical decision-making.
