Asisat Oshoala Academy: Developing Women’s Sport in Africa with Hudl

3 min Read

Asisat Oshoala Academy partners with Hudl to drive player development and scouting for young female footballers in Nigeria.

Asisat Oshoala is one of the most celebrated female footballers of all time, having won African Women’s Footballer of the Year a record six times.

Now at Bay FC in the NWSL after a trophy-laden stint at Barcelona, Oshoala is looking to nurture the next generation of Nigerian female footballers through the Asisat Oshoala Academy (AOA) and is partnering with Hudl to help drive player development, increase visibility, and empower women in sport.

The AOA is designed to provide access to football and crucial leadership and life skills for marginalized schoolgirls in Lagos, Nigeria. Through the transformative power of sports and education, the Academy's holistic approach fosters self-realization and cultivates leadership skills, enabling girls to become athletes, leaders, and advocates for positive change.

“Ultimately, the AOA strives to create a supportive and inclusive environment where every girl can thrive and reach her full potential, in addition to developing young female footballers for success on the pitch. This partnership with Hudl gives us access to some essential tools we need to achieve some of our objectives,” said Lanre Vigo, Director of Asisat Oshoala Academy.

By partnering with Hudl, AOA will support this development of girls youth football through the use of more robust technology, ensuring that young females have the tools they need to learn, improve, and boost their chances of being scouted by top teams around the world.

As the official video and analysis partner for the Academy, Hudl will provide the AOA with a Hudl Focus Flex camera, access to Hudl, and access to Wyscout. This will allow automated capture of training sessions and matches with the ability to review footage, giving young female players essential visual learning and analysis resources, while Wyscout - the world’s largest database of football video and data - will put them on the global stage and open up recruitment possibilities.

“Hudl is proud to support initiatives that contribute to the growth and development of women’s sport and our goal is to ensure every athlete gets the chance they deserve. We believe that technology plays a fundamental role in this and that this partnership can shine a light on the talented young female players in Africa, raise their profile, and create opportunities that may not have existed before,” said Hudl Senior Account Executive, Federica De Peron.
