Hudl Performance Insights 2025: Call For Research Proposals

2 min Read

Hudl open submissions for the Hudl Performance Insights 2025 research competition, with winners showcasing their innovative research to the event audience.

The inaugural Hudl Performance Insights event will take place at Fulham Pier, London on Friday 14th November 2025. The event, expanded from the Statsbomb Conference, is renowned for bringing together expert names from the football industry, with insights and experiences shared from some of the most forward-thinking sports organisations in the world.

Statsbomb always placed great importance on keeping a connection with the wider football analytics community and placing them at the centre of the event, and we will be continuing that initiative at Hudl Performance Insights. For that reason, we are once again inviting you to submit your research proposals to present at the event. The best submissions will be offered the exclusive opportunity to write a paper using bespoke Hudl data and present it to an audience of industry professionals.

Proposal Theme and Details

This year, we are open to any project proposal, but we are especially interested in proposals that focus on:

  • Novel model evaluation approaches
  • Applications or case studies answering a specific football question with some novel methodology (e.g. “what happened to Rasmus Hojlund last season?”)
  • Manager impact
  • Longitudinal analysis
  • Tactical or strategic insights
  • Simulation-based models or models built from first principles

We are dedicated to providing a platform for the most innovative research in football analytics, whether that means theoretical or practical work. Both foundational and applied research is welcome.

Accessible Data

The research competition provides a unique opportunity to work with the most comprehensive and contextual datasets in football. Participants will be given access to:

  • Five full competition-seasons of Hudl Statsbomb event and 360 data. This could be five consecutive seasons for the same competition, five competitions from the same season, or any other combination.
  • We can also provide aggregated Hudl Physical Metrics for the same five competition-seasons. We welcome any proposals that look to combine these physical metrics with event and/or 360 data to enable richer evaluation of player and team performance.

Proposal Review

Proposals will be judged by a team from the data science and analysis departments at Hudl. We will be looking for:

  • Originality: We’re looking for innovative approaches to analysing the rich event and 360 data, especially when combined with physical metrics.
  • Application: Can your work be used to help clubs make better decisions or be the basis for future research? We are particularly interested in actionable insights.
  • Feasibility: Is your proposal a realistic one for the given timeframe, considering the complexity of the data and the analysis required?

Proposal Submission

All proposals should be submitted through this Google Form by Friday 29th August.

Only one proposal per person or group. Successful proposals will be required to present at the conference (circa 20-minute presentation) and will be given free admission (maximum of 1 ticket per accepted proposal).

Best of luck,

The Hudl Team
