5 Breakout Scandinavian Talents to Keep an Eye on in 2025

8 min Read

Ahead of the new Eliteserien and Allsvenskan 2025 season, we pick out five top talents who look set for a big year.

Scandinavia is a breeding ground for some of the top up-and-coming talent in world football.

From superstar strikers like Erling Haaland, Viktor Gyökeres and Alexander Isak and elite playmakers such as Martin Ødegaard and Dejan Kulusevski, through to the exciting young talent of Lucas Bergvall, Antonio Nusa and Sverre Nypan, it’s clear why Norway and Sweden are extremely attractive destinations for scouts and agents.

With the Swedish Allsvenskan and Norwegian Eliteserien on the cusp of kicking off for their 2025 seasons, we use Wyscout - the world's largest football video scouting & analysis platform - to select five interesting talents who could make an impact over the next 12 months.

Jens Hjertø-Dahl (Tromsø)

Deep inside the Arctic Circle close to the North Pole it looks like Tromsø have unearthed a fine midfield prospect.

Meet Jens Hjertø-Dahl, the midfielder who combines a physical dominance with a technical touch of a king, and promises to have a huge breakout year in the Eliteserien.

The first striking thing about his appearance is sheer size and height. At 1.94cm tall, he has the build and look of a bruising centre back, yet he plays in midfield as an effective deep lying playmaker. This enables him to win nearly 40% of his aerial duels, 55% of defensive duels, and close to 40% offensive duels.

Hjertø-Dahl was given his Eliteserien debut in 2023, but only played less than 400 minutes that year. In 2024, he was involved in all but one of their league games and his minutes sky-rocketed to 2,133 for the season.

With just one goal and zero assists and generally lacking much in the way of amazing underlying metrics, some might say there was nothing remarkable about him. However, this is a player who has high calibre technical skills for a man of his size. At times, his deep long-range passing is reminiscent of a Kevin De Bruyne and a Dimitar Berbatov-esque touch!

While Hjertø-Dahl doesn’t stand out in any particular statistical category, his mix of physical and technical attributes means he is a strong all-rounder who can dominate midfield areas and should develop further after a strong debut campaign in 2024.

Jusef Erabi (Hammarby)

Considered by some as the most valuable player in the Allsvenskan heading into the new season, much will be expected of Hammarby’s dynamic forward Jusef Erabi in 2025.

The 21-year-old forward has registered 24 goals in 77 games for the Stockholm giants, his energetic performances as a target man number nine who can also operate across the front line seeing Erabi linked to clubs including Leeds United and Genoa.

Erabi ranked 12th in the league for expected goals per 90 minutes (xG per 90) according to Wyscout data in 2024, and the young forward’s strength, work rate and finishing ability are all highly valuable tools in his locker.

Erabi is highly adept at getting into the six yard box between the two posts - as any good forward is taught - and using his body strength, positioning and timing of his runs to get on the end of crosses or any loose balls to poach goals.

An example of his clever timing, movement and striker’s instincts can be seen in the way he loses his man with subtle movements in this home game against IFK Norrköping above. This adept forward play leads to an easy header into the net - 50% of Erabi’s eight goals last season came from headers in the box. Hammarby will need him firing if they are to mount a title challenge and may have trouble keeping him in the summer should his form continue in the face of strong interest.

Marius Broholm (Rosenborg)

The young talent cupboard has been much more fruitful at Rosenborg in the last couple of years. All of the talk has been surrounding Sverre Nypan, who is perhaps destined for a big summer move but there is another individual who must also be considered at RBK.

Marius Broholm properly burst onto the scene in the 2024 campaign, playing in all but one of Rosenborg’s fixtures and scoring 8 league goals. Best described as an athletic runner playing in a central midfield attacking role, he brings an abundance of danger to the RBK offense.

A left-footed player who operates mostly on the right side of central midfield - giving him the option to cut inside or lay off the ball to an overlapping full back - he’s a good finisher and is expected to progress even more in 2025.

Broholm, who turned 20 on Boxing Day, possesses incredible acceleration and dribbling skills which can totally transform an attack and make any team he is in a huge threat in transitions.

Compared to other Eliteserien players in the same position last season, Broholm ranked in the top 20 for shots, passes, second assists, received passes, dribbles, progressive passes and progressive runs.

He had nearly four progressive runs per game, averaging roughly 110 metres of progression. At 6.17 dribbles per game, he was a nightmare for opposition defences and typically engaged in over 11 offensive duels in each contest.

Broholm is very quick and his physical skills are one of his big assets, but he also keeps the ball well with over 83% of his dribbles keeping possession in the final third of the field in the last calendar year.

If he continues this trajectory, Broholm looks set for a big future and has all the qualities required to succeed in top European leagues.

Zeidane Inoussa (BK Häcken)

“Totally dominant” is how one report described Zeidane Inoussa against IFK Norrköping in the recent Swedish Cup semi-final that saw BK Häcken win to reach the final. “Häcken should be grateful he has not moved abroad yet.” That sentiment just about sums up the feeling around Sweden about this shining young talent.

A product of the famous IF Brommapojkarna academy who has already had two spells abroad in France (Caen) and Spain (Real Murcia, Valencia CF Mestalla), Inoussa returned to Sweden in 2023 to rejoin Brommapojkarna before a move to BK Häcken in 2024.

A string of dazzling performances down the wing as a wide forward took Allsvenskan by storm. Now 22, an older, more mature Inoussa hit six goals and two assists in 22 appearances during the 2024 season, and this could be another breakthrough year for the Stockholm-born wing wizard. Per Wyscout data, Inoussa was one of the best players in the league for dribbles (6.55 per 90) (9th) and touches in the box per 90 (5.54 - 5th), a dangerous forward who gets into good areas and is tricky and effective in one v one situations standing up his opponent.

Inoussa is reminiscent of another former Allsvenskan player Bazoumana Toure - who featured in one of our recent Wyscout blogs before earning a mega-money move to Hoffenheim in Germany. Hull City, Celtic and Saint Etienne are just a few teams to show persistent interest or offers to BK Häcken, who are in no rush to sell. That could change however if he continues his excellent trajectory in the upcoming Allsvenskan campaign.

Tokmac Nguen (Djurgårdens IF)

Veteran striker Tokmac Nguen may be coming into the twilight of his career but he could be an important player this season, for a team where expectations are always high.

The Kenyan-born Norwegian striker signed for Djurgårdens IF in 2024 but ended up registering the minutes of a squad player, starting only 14 league games for another of Stockholm’s giant clubs. Despite this, he hit six goals - a reasonable return to suggest he does have something about his game to be a difference maker at this level.

However, it is in DIF’s historic UEFA Conference League campaign where Nguen really made a name for himself. Three goals and four assists in eight games - including key contributions in the win against Pafos FC that saw Djurgårdens IF become the first Swedish team to reach the quarter finals of a European competition since 1997 - have made Tokmac something of a DIF cult hero. The task now is to build on that European success and take it into the league in 2025.

Nguen can play in a variety of positions across the forward line, and while he can be clunky at times in his final actions and finishing, he still ranked the 11th best player in the league for xG per 90 according to Wyscout data, with his 4.87 successful actions per 90 ranking 12th of all players still in Allsvenskan heading into 2025. This is a high shot volume player who loves a crack at goal - his 4.3 shots per 90 the highest of any player in the league to play 1000 minutes or more last season. With a 45.9% shot on target accuracy and three assists, Nguen is a volatile, at times unpredictable player who could be a wildcard heading into a new season for DIF.
