We’re all about teams at Hudl. Of course we mean our users (who are sports teams), but we’re also talking about the teams of people that make up who Hudl is. We all lean on each other to achieve our goals and reach success, just like any sports team does.

And we all have our specific roles on the team. Take Scrum Masters like Sonny Lam. He’s the ultimate team player, making sure everyone on his squad has what they need, when they need it to solve the complex problems we’re solving for our customers.

I'm not an engineer, I'm not in the weeds, I'm not a designer, I'm not on the front lines. But what [being a Scrum Master] does allow me to do, is bring all of the skills of everyone together and make an impact, not just for the team, but for the company, for the vision and for all the outcomes that we need to pursue. Sonny Lam

Watch our full interview with Lam below, then take a look at his takeaways for anyone looking to start their career at Hudl.

Whether you’re looking to join our team as a Scrum Master, or interested in a different field, these pieces of advice from Lam will get you off on the right foot.

Don’t let imposter syndrome stand in your way.

“Join. Do it. Go for it. If you think you're qualified, go for it. If you don't think you're qualified, go for it, because you will get so much support. There are so many amazing people here [at Hudl] for you to meet, for you to learn off, for you to grow with.”

Be prepared to learn.

“The thing that has helped me in my career is just being humble and listening. Every experience, every situation is a lesson. Whether you come out of it feeling great, not feeling great, it’s giving you a learning and giving you a lesson. So be humble.”

Be prepared to try new things.

“Just jump in, don't be afraid. You're going to fall over, but it's about getting up, being brave, being courageous. So give it a go. You never know what might happen, what doors might open. [...] Just get involved, doesn't matter and just give it a go.”

Be prepared for change.

“You're constantly challenged and faced with new and exciting problems, every single day. And what that does, is it forces you to evolve, it forces you to grow. With the support that Hudl gives you, it nurtures you to be a better person than you were yesterday.”
