Hudl brings your film, data, and tools together in one view. Here's how the player is organized.

  • A search bar above the video to filter, find library items or perform actions
  • Filters button next to the search bar to quickly search the video for moments or actions
  • A Library button to add or remove video from the video player
  • The right sidebar gives you quick access to all major views: Video, Reports, Comments, List, Saved, Review, Grid, and Timeline.
  • A context bar in the top, left corner of the video shows the current contact (action type, player name, and score) 
  • Annotation toolbar sits above the video with drawing tools, Court Overlays, and Trajectories.

Ways to View Contacts

You can browse your contacts in three views: List, Grid, and Timeline. Switch between them using the icons in the right sidebar. Clicking any contact in any view jumps the video to that moment.

List

List shows your contacts in chronological order, grouped by rally. Each row displays the contact type, athlete, and basic details. From here you can edit a contact or add it to your Saved Clips.

Grid

Grid shows your contacts in a spreadsheet-style table beneath the video player. It surfaces more detail per contact — including result, quality, score, zones, speed, height, phase, and video time. Click any contact to open a quick edit panel where you can update fields, edit more details, add it to your Saved Clips, or delete it. Grid is useful for scanning or comparing across a large set of contacts at a glance.

Timeline

Timeline plots contacts along a horizontal timeline, organized by team and contact type. Each team is expanded into rows for Serve, Serve Receive, Set, Attack, Dig, Block, Cover, Free Ball, Free Ball Receive, and Violation, so you can see exactly when each action occurred and how they overlap across a rally. Use Timeline when you want to follow the sequence of play or compare your team's actions against the opponent's side by side.

Navigate Your Library • Find Video in Your Library

Use comments to provide specific feedback, highlight key moments, and communicate directly with teammates and coaches.

  1. In the right sidebar, select the Comments icon.
  2. The comment box at the bottom of the panel shows the current timestamp and rally name — your comment will be pinned to that moment in the video.
  3. Type your feedback in the Add a comment... field.
  4. Select your audience by clicking the audience button (defaults to Everyone). You can send to:
    1. Everyone
    2. A specific group (e.g., Coaches, Athletes, All Team, or any custom groups on your team)
    3. A specific user
  5. Click the send arrow to post.

To tag an athlete or teammate in your comment, use the @ symbol and select their name from the list to notify them directly.

Add Comments to Video

Use the annotation toolbar above the video to highlight positioning, movement, and key moments directly on your film.

  1. Locate the annotation toolbar above the video player.
  2. Select a drawing tool:
    1. Add Text
    2. Draw Arrow
    3. Draw Line
    4. Draw Circle
    5. Draw Block
    6. Draw Freehand
    7. Draw Laser Pen
  3. Use Undo or Delete Effect to remove drawings as needed.

Add Effects to Video

Use Saved Clips to organize key moments, build playlists, and send film to Highlight Builder.

Save a Clip

  1. Click the blue + Create Clip button in the context bar above the video, or open the Saved icon in the right sidebar and click + Create Clip.
  2. Open the List View and click + on the right hand side.

Add Clips to a Playlist or Highlight from Your Video

Once you've created a clip, it will appear in your Saved Clips panel.

  1. Open the Saved icon in the right sidebar.
  2. Select one or more clips.
  3. Search for an existing playlist or highlight, or select Create Playlist to start a new one.
  4. To share with your team, select Send to Team Highlights.

Use the annotation toolbar above the video to add visual context to your film.

Court Overlays

  1. Locate the Court Overlay icon in the right hand corner of the video.
  2. Select the Court Overlays tab.
  3. Toggle on any of the following:
    1. Court Overlay
    2. Speed Overlay
    3. Contact Height
    4. Net Overlay (includes an opacity control)

Ball Trajectories

Use ball trajectories to visualize ball movement and better understand shot placement, passing patterns, and play development.

  1. Locate the Ball Trajectories icon in the right hand corner of the video.
  2. Select the Trajectories tab.
  3. Select the actions for which you'd like trajectories displayed:
    1. Serve
    2. Reception
    3. Set
    4. Dig
