If this is your first time using our services, or you just wish to setup a test stream for our services, you can setup a separate broadcasts that will not appear publicly.

For information on operating Production Truck, please see: Production Truck Overview

Setting Up a Test Broadcast on Production Truck

  1. Set up a separate test broadcast. We would recommend doing this and not using the Test option available for broadcasts if the test you wish to do is far outside the broadcast's scheduled time.

Open Production Truck and select the Preferences menu, the gear icon in the center of Production Truck.

  2. Navigate to the Services tab on the far left. Select Create Broadcast.

  3. Schedule your broadcast. Enter in a Section, Title, and Date/Time. Label the broadcast appropriately as a Test and put the broadcast under the Test section.

  4. To ensure the broadcast does not appear publicly, scroll down to Settings. Select the Plan tab and change your to either Unlisted or Unavailable.

    Click Create.

  5. You can now stream this broadcast as if it were an actual event.

Broadcasts are typically ready to be streamed within 5 minutes after being created. If you receive an error about server scaling, please wait.

  6. To verify if your test is successful. Navigate to vCloud.

Once logged in, navigate to the Broadcast Grid page under Produce.

  7. Select the "i" icon.

  8. Click Play and the test broadcast should begin streaming.

Broadcasts will always be slightly delayed by up to 30 seconds.

Setting up a Test Broadcast with RTMP

If streaming to vCloud via RTMP, we would also recommend setting up an entirely new stream to test streaming to our platform from your encoder.

  1. Open vCloud on a browser and log in.

Navigate to the Broadcast Grid page under Produce.

  2. Click Operations>Create Broadcast.

  3. Schedule a broadcast. Enter a Section, Title, and Date/Time. Label the broadcast appropriately as a Test and put the broadcast under the Test section.

RTMP streams will be valid from 01:00:00 before the broadcast's scheduled date until 01:00:00 after the broadcast is stopped, so it is important to correctly input the time and test in accordance with that time window.

  4. Go to the Alternate Sources box and change the Alt Sources drop down from None to RTMP.

  5. To ensure the broadcast does not appear publicly, scroll down to Settings and select the Plan tab. Change the availability to either Unlisted or Unavailable.

  6. Click Create.

Broadcasts are typically ready to be streamed to within 5 minutes after being created. If you receive an error about server scaling, please wait.

  7. Navigate back to the Broadcast Grid page under Produce.

  8. Select the "i" icon.

  9. Under the video player, you will find the RTMP information for that particular broadcast. Copy and paste this information into your encoder.

  10. Begin streaming from your encoder. Navigate back to this page and click the play button on the video player to verify it is streaming.

FAQs

How do I keep my test private and hidden from fans?

Broadcasts scheduled under the Test section will not appear to fans. You can also adjust the broadcast's availability settings to be unavailable.

If using Production Truck, should I just create a test livestream and hit Test instead of Live?

Test mode in Production Truck is designed to test things before going live. For a complete testing experience, and to ensure everything is running smoothly, we would recommend going live!
