Privacy & Regulations

Privacy

My school is concerned about privacy issues. Will anyone have access to the video?

Video captured by the Hudl camera is automatically uploaded and delivered to the team’s Hudl library. The raw video is uploaded to a private Amazon S3 bucket. There is no access to video in this bucket, except by Hudl’s servers. Hudl servers encode this video into formats that are playable on Hudl.com and the Hudl mobile apps before delivering it to a team’s library.

Once the video is successfully delivered to a library, access to view Hudl video is controlled by administrators on the Hudl team. Admins can change the permissions on a video by clicking “Share” in the Hudl library. Hudl support and engineering teams may also access the camera for business purposes only.

Can my Focus camera be hacked?

The Focus camera requires a private access key in order to obtain remote access. Any network ports not in use by Focus are locked down and cannot be connected to.

Can I unplug my Focus camera?

Yes, but you risk losing video and important updates that ensure your camera captures high-quality video for your teams.

Can I use my Focus camera as a secondary security camera?

Hudl Focus is not intended to be a security camera.

Is my Focus camera always recording?

Your device will only record video when a coach or administrator has scheduled a recording. You can confirm the camera's status either by looking at the light on the device or by opening the Hudl Focus app. If the device is recording, you'll see a green light on the camera or in the top left corner of the app. To cancel a recording, either remove the game from your Hudl schedule or change it to "Away".

Can I put restrictions on when my Focus camera is allowed to record?

Not at this time, but this is a feature that we are actively exploring and evaluating.

Is there a Windows/Mac version of the app, or is an Android/iOS device necessary for management?

At this time, there is not a Windows or Mac version of the Hudl Focus app. An iOS or Android device is required for setup and management. You can manage your team’s schedule on hudl.com from any device, and those updates will automatically sync to your Focus camera’s recording schedule.

Can I assign the Focus camera to a static IP?

Hudl Focus gets its IP address via DHCP, so you’ll be able to identify it on your network. The camera will be named its four-digit serial number (found on the back of the unit), e.g., FOCUS-XXXX or or FCXXX-XXXXXX. If a MAC address is easier for identifying the device, Hudl can provide this to the school.

Are all instances of data transmission encrypted?

We use an HTTPS connection to transfer video files to our servers to ensure they are sent to the correct location without interception. Only coaches, admins and athletes on a team will be able to view video and data for that team. Additionally, coaches and admins can customize the permissions on specific videos to a single user or groups of users. All users require authorization before accessing any data or video.
