The purpose of this tutorial is to demonstrate how to watch video in Hudl.
With Hudl you and your team have access to all of your video and its associated data online, no matter where you are. You can watch self scout, opponent scout, or practice film in Hudl. In order for film to be available in Hudl, it must be published by a team coach or administrator using the Hudl Video Editor. With Hudl, you also have the ability to use an Xbox Controller to view your videos. If you are using an Xbox Controller, check out the Using an Xbox Controller in Hudl tutorial.
Watching Video
- Log in to Hudl. If you do not have a username and password, contact your team’s head coach or administrator.
- The easiest way to watch video in Hudl is through the Video Library. To access the library, move your mouse over the Libraries button on the Hudl main menu. Click on your team on the resulting sub-menu to go to the Library page for your team.
On the library page, you can view all of your team’s video. The video library is split into three parts. The video player in the top left, the library in the top right, and the clips list will appear at the bottom of the page once a playlist is selected. - The library is organized by your team’s schedule and contains all of the playlists and reports available to you. Click the plus (+) buttons next to any schedule entry in the library to see the categories for that entry.
- Click the plus (+) button next to any category to see the playlists and reports in that category. You can collapse expanded sections of the tree at any time by clicking the minus (-) signs.
- Click the checkbox next to any playlist to load the clips in the clips list below the video screen. You can load multiple playlists by selecting multiple checkboxes.
- The video player will automatically load with the first clip from the playlist. To load a different clip at any time, click the blue Load Clip button at the far left side of each row in the clips list. An arrow will appear in the row of the clip that is currently loaded in the video player. Each clip row contains the associated data for each clip. You can customize the data shown by changing your data view. For more information about changing data views, see the Using Views tutorial video.
- Once a clip has loaded in the video player, the playback controls will become available for use. The playback controls include play, pause, slow and fast forward, slow and fast reverse, and frame forward and back. Click the Play button in the middle of the playback controls to begin playing a video. The play button will change to a pause button when the video is playing.

- The following controls are available for your playback options in Hudl:
/
: Press to play or pause your video.
: Press and hold to slow forward or slow rewind. Click to frame forward and frame back.
: Press and hold for fast forward or fast rewind.
: Press and hold to replay from start point. This button comes in handy when you have adjusted your time flags (see below)
- To control your playback mode, click the Menu button. The resulting menu gives you these options for playback:

- Adjust Volume:Slide the orange volume slider to adjust the volume.
- Activate Xbox Controller: Click on the Activate Controller button. To learn more about using the Xbox controller, see the Using the Xbox Controller tutorial. http:/hudl.com/tutorials/xboxremote.
- Hide All Notes:Check the Hide All Notes box to hide all of your video notes.

- To watch video in full screen, click the Full Screen button
on the left side of the video controls. To exit full screen, either click the Full Screen button again or push ESC on your keyboard.
Adjusting your Time Flags
If you would like to narrow the time frame of a clip you’re viewing, you can adjust the time flags on the time bar. This will allow you to focus in on a short part of the clip for teaching or review. Adjusting the flags is not permanent, and will return to original time frame once you move to another clip.
- Click and drag the flags to time you wish you view. The green flag on the left adjusts the start point and the red flag on the right adjusts the stop point of video playback. Only the video between the flags will be shown.

- Press Play/Pause to play the selected time frame.
- Press the Replay from Start Point button to replay the clip within the time flags.
- To remove the time flags, drag them back to their starting points, or hit the blue play button in the clips list. The flags will snap back to their original location.
