How Volleymetrics Handles 6-2s

Running a 6-2 is a strategy that is unique to United States volleyball and Volleymetrics has accommodated this system when coding matches. However, since we analyze thousands of matches for hundreds of teams each season, it becomes impossible for us to keep track of teams that change or switch setters, or move from a 6-2 to a 5-1, etc.

On an individual match basis, we always consider the setter who starts the set as the primary setter. Deviating from this standard would likely cause more issues than simply following it consistently.

For reports that pull data from multiple matches, players who have a certain percentage of the team’s total sets are identified as “setters”. The setter who has the most sets is identified as the “Primary Setter” and rotations within the report are based off that player.
