Stream to Facebook

Production Truck Pro (Mac) has built-in Facebook integration. Once logged into Facebook in Production Truck, there is no need to do any creating or editing on Facebook via a browser; it can all be done within Production Truck.

Facebook currently limits streaming from the direct integration to four hours. In order to stream longer than four hours via Facebook, we would recommend streaming via RTMP, as seen below.

Direct Integration

  1. Log into Production Truck, and navigate to the Preferences window (gear icon in the center of Production Truck). On the far left-hand Service tab, you will want to change Streaming Service to Facebook.

  2. Sign into Facebook.

  3. Facebook will ask for permission to give Production Truck access to post on the account and manage pages. Navigate through the various Facebook permission screens.

    If attempting to stream to a page, select the user account from the drop down in the upper right-hand corner of Production Truck.

    Administrative permissions must be allowed for the page on Facebook in order to post.

  4. Choose Create Broadcast.

  5. Facebook will provide a Title and Description option. Both will be publicly visible on the post. Post publicly visibility can also be controlled.

  6. With the broadcast created, streaming can now go live on Facebook. Go Live within Production Truck and the post will appear livd on Facebook. No manual input on Facebook is needed.

Via RTMP

  1. Streaming to Facebook via RTMP through Production Truck can also be done. Production Truck has a built-in Facebook option that simplifies the streaming process, however, this is also an alternative.

    If live-streaming from a page, the Facebook account you are signed into will need permissions to post to that page from the page owner or administrator.

  2. Navigate to Facebook and choose from the "What's on Your Mind" option. Clicking on the three dots will expand the post options to include "Live Video". Choose this option.

  3. On the Live Producer page. choose Go Live Now or Schedule a Live Video. If attempting to go live within 10 minutes, it is recommend to choose Go Live Now. If the broadcast is further out than that choose Schedule a Live Video.

    Facebook requires that the Schedule a Live Video option is at-least 10 mins in the future.

  4. Go Live Now

    Select Go Live Now to populate the screen to the right. Under Getting Started, by default you will likely be on Camera, select that option followed by Use Stream Keys.

  5. Under settings, there is an option to End live video if stream stops option. It is recommended that this feature is disabled if you anticipate poor internet connection or interruptions.

  6. Go into Production Truck and log in. Choose the preference wheel in the center. Choose the Services tab. Then, change Streaming Service to Generic and then choose Create Broadcast.

  7. On the Create Broadcast page, fill in Broadcast Title and paste the Server URL from Facebook into the Host URL field. Paste the Stream Key text into the Stream name section. No username or password is required. Click Create.

  8. Choose Live when ready to broadcast within Production Truck.

  9. Facebook will show a preview of the broadcast in the lower right-hand corner. Choose Go Live in the lower left-hand corner when ready to Go Live.

  10. If posting to a page, change the Share to Your Timeline dropdown to Share to a Page you Manage and select that page.

    NOTE: Facebook stream keys are valid until you log out of Facebook. Do not log out of Facebook if using Facebook's live streaming to prevent the stream from ending.

  1. Schedule a Live Video

    Options will be slightly different when scheduling a video. On the right-hand side choose the time for the broadcast to go live. The broadcast and post will appear on the page at this time, regardless of what is occurring within the actual broadcast.

  2. If posting to a page, change the Share to Your Timeline dropdown to Share to a Page you Manage and select that page.

  3. Under Getting Started, by default, you will likely be on camera. A preview of what your post will look like will be shown

  4. Under settings, there is an option to End live video if stream stops option. It is recommended that this feature is disabled if you anticipate poor internet connection or interruptions.

  5. Go into Production truck. After logging in, choose the preference wheel in the center. From there choose the Services tab. Change Streaming Service to Generic and then choose Create Broadcast.

  6. On the Create Broadcast page, fill in Broadcast Title, then paste the Stream Key text into the Stream name section. Instead, use the Host URL below. Facebook does not provide the server information. No username or password is required. Click Create.

  7. Host URL: rtmps://live-api-s.facebook.com:443/rtmp/

    NOTE: Facebook stream keys are valid until you log out of Facebook. Do not log out of Facebook if using Facebook's live streaming to prevent the stream from ending.

  8. Back on Facebook, in the lower left hand corner, select Schedule Live Video.

    The broadcast is now scheduled to go live on Facebook. The broadcast will not go live until the time selected under Announcement Post on Facebook. Once the live video is scheduled and ready for broadcast select Go Live in Production Truck.

    Note: After Scheduling the Live Video, a new option will appear in the bottom right-hand corner of Facebook, entitled Enable Manual Mode. Enable this option if wanting to manually post the live stream withing Facebook.
