Network Requirements

Hudl TV has certain network requirements for connecting to Hudl servers to livestream your events. If your organization cannot do the below, we cannot support livestreaming for your event.

If you are using a Hudl Focus, be sure to meet the additional broadcast requirements.

Network Setup

A wired network connection with internet access is highly recommended. The most reliable network connection connects directly via Ethernet to a dedicated network. This means that no other computers or devices have access to that network. This connection type is less likely to experience bandwidth fluctuation than shared networks or wireless connections.

Generally, the tiers of network connectivity should be approached as follows in the ranking of preference:

  1. Wired network connection
  2. Wi-Fi connection (locked/private)
  3. Cellular Data or Hotspot

Consistent upload speeds of 5 Mbps or faster are required. Even on our most basic streaming plans, these requirements must be met to live stream at HD quality. We recommend having at least double the amount of upload speed as your streaming plan for the best connection.

  • Hudl Premium Streaming - 12 Mbps or higher
  • Hudl Standard Streaming - 6.0 Mbps or higher
  • 720p Stream Plans - 5.0 Mbps or higher

If using both Production Truck and a Hudl Focus camera, your network speeds will need to meet combined needs. With both of these platforms taking up bandwidth on your network, speeds should be higher. We would recommend roughly 35 Mbps of dedicated upload speed for both.

Firewall Requirements

The network needs to be able to maintain a back and forth communication with BlueFrame. In order of importance, the following Firewall ports on your network should be open to incoming and outgoing communication:

  • TCP 1935
  • TCP 80
  • TCP 443
  • TCP 8080

URL Filtering

Production Truck will use a direct address, which requires the following to be accessible:

  • compute.amazonaws.com

One of our typical RTMP URLs will look like:

  • rtmp://<stream-name>.blueframe.live:1935/ where <stream-name> is a dynamically generated code.

If your network uses URL filtering, please be sure to whitelist the following RTMP host:

  • *.blueframe.live

Content management and login verification will require that the following URL be accessible:

  • vcloud.blueframetech.com

Protocols

Both standard and secure streaming will require that the following protocols are accessible:

  • rtmp
  • rtmps

Browsing and login verification will require that the following protocols are accessible:

  • http
  • https
