Camera Access

Hudl Focus gets its IP address via DHCP, so you’ll be able to identify it on your network. The camera name will be its four-digit serial number (found on the back of the unit), e.g., focus-XXXX.

Technical Requirements

Your Focus camera must be able to communicate with Hudl to record and upload automatically. The following is what’s required to make this possible.

A wired connection to a network port.
Ideally near the mounting location.

Hudl Focus cannot connect via Wi-Fi. You’ll need to use a standard Cat 6/6a cable to connect to the internet.

Consistent upload speeds of 5Mbps or faster.

Hudl Focus uploads HD video. A reliable network is crucial in getting your video online.

The camera communicates with Hudl via API over ports 80 and 443.

The camera uploads video to Amazon S3 over ports 80 and 443.

Access on ports 8883, 8443 and 443 cleared for  *.iot.us-east-1.amazonaws.com

The camera communicates with Hudl via Amazon’s Internet of Things on ports 8883, 8443 and 443.

The camera receives software updates using the Dataplicity service on ports 80 and 443.

Access on port 123 cleared for *.pool.ntp.org

The camera communicates with a cluster of NTP time servers on port 123 to keep the device’s date and time in sync.

The camera will receive periodic updates through ports 80 and 443.

Hudl Focus uploads crash reports so we can debug if anything isn’t working.

The camera software requires access to Python packages.

Make sure you have the green light at hudl.com/speedtest. Run the test on any device connected to whichever network you plan to use for Focus.
