Grass Setup

The tripod must be stabilized any time it is raised in the air, regardless of conditions. Failure to use the stabilization kit may result in serious injury or property damage.

If setting up on a grass field, follow the steps below. If setting up on an artificial turf field, check out these steps instead.

  1. Position the tripod - Facing away from the sun, set up the tripod approximately 10–20ft. (3–6m) from the sideline and no more than 5ft. (1.5m) to the left or right of the midfield line.

    The distance and height requirements allow the camera to capture the whole field, including all four corners and the near sideline. The camera cannot be set up on the endline.

  2. Set up the tripod - Loosen tripod knob (E), then expand the tripod legs until the leg brace is parallel to the ground. Next, tighten knob (E) to secure it in place. To keep the tripod stable and the center column even with the leg brace, do not adjust the bottom tripod knob.

  3. Ensure these items are attached to the tripod:

    Rapid connect adapter and stabilization kit attachment. For equipment reference, see page 2 in your Flex User Manual.

    Leave the Stabilization Kit adapter attached to the tripod after use.

  4. Attach the Stabilization Kit safety cables - Taking the end of the Stabilization Kit safety cable with the carabiner clip, attach the clip through one of the holes of the stabilization kit attachment. Repeat these steps with the remaining two Stabilization Kit safety cables.

  5. Turn on the camera - Remove the camera from the backpack and press the power button on the back of the device—a white light on the front of the camera will appear indicating it is powered on.

  6. Look for the angle adapter under the camera - Check that the angle adapter is properly fastened to the bottom of the camera.

  7. Attach the camera to the tripod - Pull the latch open on the tripod rapid connect adapter and slide the camera (with the attached angle adapter) onto this base. It should click once it’s secure. Next, use the brass lever to lock the camera into place. Make sure the camera is facing the field away from the sun, angled downwards and aligned with the sideline.

  8. Raise the camera - Raise the tripod to the recommended height, based on your distance from the sideline—between 12 feet and 20 feet or 3.6 meters and 6 meters. Check the placement requirements for exact height and distance measurements.

    Keep all knobs tightened, even the ones with sections that aren’t extended. This will help keep the camera pointed in the correct direction in case of high winds.

  9. Loop the safety cables around the stakes - Take the loose end of the safety cable and loop around the hook of a stake. Do not tie the safety cable to the stake. Repeat these steps with the remaining two safety cables and stakes.

  10. Stabilize the tripod - Push stakes into the ground, out away from the tripod; using the metal safety cable adjuster, tighten the safety cables, each a little bit at a time to ensure all three safety cables are even.
