Network Quality of Service Settings and Requirements

Bandwidth and Connectivity Recommendations

When streaming, the most reliable internet connection is connecting directly via Ethernet to a dedicated network. This means that no other computers or devices have access to that network. This connection type is less likely to experience bandwidth fluctuation than shared networks or wireless connections.

Generally, the tiers of network connectivity should be approached as follows in ranking of preference:

  1. Wired network connection
  2. Wi-Fi connection (locked/private)
  3. Cellular Data or Hotspot

A good rule of thumb is to have twice as much upload speed available as the bitrate you want to stream at. An average bitrate of our plans is listed below:

  • 1080p with transcoding – 4.0 Mbps (upload speed should be 8.0 Mbps or higher)
  • 720p with transcoding - 2.5 Mbps (upload speed should be 5.0 Mbps or higher)
  • 720p with transcoding - 2.0 Mbps (upload speed should be 4.0 Mbps or higher)
  • 720p without transcoding – 1.8 Mbps (upload speed should be 3.6 Mbps or higher)
  • 360p without transcoding - 1.0 Mbps (upload speed should be 2.0 Mbps or higher)

Firewall Requirements

The network needs to be able to maintain a back and forth communication with BlueFrame. In order of importance, the following Firewall ports on your network should be open to incoming and outgoing communication:

  • TCP 1935
  • TCP 80
  • TCP 443
  • TCP 8080

URL Filtering

One of our typical RTMP URLs will look like:

  • rtmp://<stream-name>.blueframe.live:1935/ where <stream-name> is a dynamically generated code.

If your network uses URL filtering, please be sure to whitelist the following RTMP host:

  • *.blueframe.live

Content management and login verification will require that the following URL be accessible:

  • vcloud.blueframetech.com

Protocols

Both standard and secure streaming will require that the following protocols are accessible:

  • rtmp
  • rtmps

Browsing and login verification will require that the following protocols are accessible:

  • http
  • https

IP Addresses

We don’t currently offer static IP address to customers. For a list of IP address we may use, customers can consult the IP ranges list published by Amazon:
