Tooltips can pro­vide addi­tion­al con­text or act as a sim­ple label.

  • Label tooltips should be three words or less — one word is best. Use title case in these instances.
  • Use sen­tence case with prop­er punc­tu­a­tion for instruc­tion­al tooltips.
  • Be infor­ma­tive and clear — instruc­tion­al tooltips should be 110 char­ac­ters or less. There’s no space for clev­er­ness or confusion.
  • Periods are the only end punc­tu­a­tion you’ll need.
