Because great defenses never rest, coaches are always looking for new ways to keep their D on its toes. This week’s drill from PGC Basketball is the perfect tool to keep your players in peak defensive performance throughout the season.

The best defensive teams just so happen to be the smartest. This drill will force your team to work on multiple game-like defensive situations, all in a single rep.

Scramble Cut Defense

Each time the defense takes the floor, they must successfully complete these three segments:

Three Guarding Four: Defense will be down a man, meaning players have to communicate and scramble to cover each other’s backs.

Guarding cuts: With the offensive advantage removed, the defense must work on denying cuts to the basket.

Live: As the offense looks to score, the defense must end the drill with a stop.

As your team works through this drill, their success will be defined both by their execution and their effort. Focusing on the appropriate defensive techniques is key, but it’s the commitment to great energy and communication that makes this drill truly effective.
