PGC Fast Break: Outlet and Finish

It’s time to dive deeper into post player development with the Outlet and Finish drill.

It’s time for the third installment in our PGC Basketball drill series! After sharing the Gauntlet and One-Minute Finish, we thought it was time to dive deeper into post player development with the Outlet and Finish drill.

Post players are vital to a team’s success in transition. Not only will a great post player trigger the offense with a rebound and outlet pass – Kevin Love, anyone? – but they’ll also run the floor and finish at the basket à la DeAndre Jordan.

Outlet and Finish

Players will have the opportunity to work on the following offensive and defensive transition skills in this drill:

  • Attacking the glass and making a solid outlet pass
  • Running straight to the rim to get a good, hard post up
  • Improved footwork on multiple finishes

Plus, there’s minimal downtime, giving players a constant stream of significant reps at game speed.
Even better – post players aren’t the only ones to benefit from Outlet and Finish. As those athletes get in the habit of occupying the post defender in transition, they’ll open up space and create driving lanes for your guards. See what we mean with the video below, then be sure to add Outlet and Finish to that ever-changing practice routine.

This is the third installment in a series featuring offseason drills for your team from the PGC Basketball. As with all drills in this series, we want to hear from you! Comment below to let us know what you think of Outlet and Finish, and how you plan to use it with your team this summer.
