PGC Fast Break: One-Minute Finish

To get players practicing the shots that really matter, PGC developed a crazy simple – and crazy effective – drill.

This summer is all about sharing the tools to help basketball players crush another offseason, which is why we’ve partnered with the experts over at PGC. A few weeks ago we shared our first skill drill, the Gauntlet (be sure to check it out here), and the more we thought about it, we realized there really is no better follow-up than the One-Minute Finish.

A team can spend a lot of time practicing and perfecting the easy layups, but those simple shots don’t always present themselves during a game. To get players practicing the shots that really matter, PGC developed a crazy simple – and crazy effective – drill.

One-Minute Finish

With this drill, players begin at the elbow and attack the basket with one strong dribble, then work on multiple finishing moves at the rim. Each finish gives players meaningful repetitions on both sides of the basket. Plus, creating a game-like environment gives this drill an edge over basic layups. Featured finishes include:

  • Power Finish
  • Spin Move
  • Sweep Over
  • Floater
  • Eurostep

You can maximize the time spent running this one by encouraging athletes to attack the basket as though every rep is the final minute of an actual game. As with any good workout, great players won’t simply go through the motions on this drill.

This is the second episode in a series featuring full drills from the PGC circuit. As with all drills in this series, we would love to hear your thoughts – just comment below with ways to make it even better or how you plan to effectively use it in upcoming workouts.
