Hudl Sideline Is Now Available

Whether you have a coach in the press box, four on the sideline, or a few in the end zone, your private wireless network will get them the video they need within seconds of when it’s recorded.

It’s an instant replay system that allows coaches to review every play before the next snap. Whether you have a coach in the press box, four on the sideline, or a few in the end zone, your private wireless network will get them the video they need within seconds of when it’s recorded.

How it works

We won’t go into too much detail–there’s a whole page about it right here–but it’s simple as this: We provide a portable wireless router with a network name and password unique to your staff. Only individuals with an iOS device connected to that network with the correct password will be able to see your team’s video. Depending on the package you sign up for, your staff can connect as many as eight devices to review film from anywhere in the stadium (the router has a range of one half-mile).

In terms of recording, you can use an iPad, an iPhone or your existing camera. If you go the camera route, we’ll provide a streaming kit to connect that device to the wireless network. Some teams prefer to record two angles, which is more than okay! For every play recorded, both clips will broadcast to every viewing device, so your coaches can relive that go-ahead touchdown from the press box and end zone.

The value of instant replay

As soon as a play is available for review, pull it up to check out each team’s strengths and weaknesses. By reviewing that footage from the sideline (or press box), you’re in the perfect position to take advantage of those strengths and weaknesses.

That’s not to say strategizing is the only benefit to instant replay. Think about the value of video review in general: Your players are able to see what they do well and where they can continue to improve. Imagine giving them the opportunity to make those adjustments when a win is on the line. They have real points of reference in an opposing D-line, a slow corner, or a pocket that stays open just long enough. Relate their performance to those situations and watch it all come together on the very next play.

Do more with your video

As each play is recorded, it’s numbered. That way, if a guy in the press box wants the head coach to check play No. 27, he knows just where to look. We also show coordinators a little love with the option to ODK as the clips are cut. And when you realize all of that video can be uploaded to Hudl over Wi-Fi after the game, that tagging feature becomes a lot more enticing.

Maybe there’s no rhyme or reason to the plays you review during a game – some are on offense, others on defense, and you were too busy calling plays to take note of a clip number. That’s what the flag feature is for. Select the flag next to every play worth extra attention, and you’ll have a clear-cut list of what to browse.
