Babatunde is Chasing His NFL Dream

Have you heard of Babatunde Aiyegbusi? No? Well, you should get familiar.

Have you heard of Babatunde Aiyegbusi? No? Well, you should get familiar. The man hails from Warsaw, Poland, standing at 6-foot-9, 351-lbs. He has a dream to play in the NFL, but his journey hasn’t been that of a typical prospect.

Aiyegbusi has never played a down of college football in his life – not one. He started as a basketball player before deciding to give football a shot. He’s pretty good, too.

The past few years, he’s been an offensive tackle in the Polish American Football League. As you can imagine, his size got a few people’s attention. By way of Texas Tech football assistant coach Kevin Curtis, Aiyegbusi got in touch with American football agent Jeff Griffin.

Curtis was first introduced to Aiyegbusi when the tackle’s film reached the Texas Tech football offices – just to gauge if the Red Raiders had any interest. Unfortunately, he wasn’t eligible for collegiate play because he’d already been competing in a professional organization. That’s when the tape was passed on to an agent. Griffin was able to get in touch with Aiyegbusi via Skype, and his journey to play in America began.

On Sunday, March 22, he arrived in Texas to compete at the University of Texas — San Antonio’s Pro Day. That afternoon, he was learning the drills NFL scouts would be observing the very next day. Despite the learning curve, he caught the eye of a few teams and the phone calls began. He worked out with the Minnesota Vikings two days later.

Because he was unable to play in college, he will not be part of this year’s NFL draft. However, he is free to sign with any interested team, and that’s what he did. As of Thursday, Aiyegbusi is a Minnesota Viking.

Some told him he would never be able to play in the states, but here he is. He may be new to the game and raw in terms of some skills, but his drive and potential are definitely taking him places. He’s ready to chase his dream, and we’re ready to watch him succeed.
