Video Introduction
The purpose of this tutorial is to demonstrate how to create, watch, and share Premium Highlights in Hudl.
In Hudl, you can easily create highlight videos from the videos that you have access to in Hudl (for more information about adding highlights, see the Using Highlights tutorial). With Premium Highlights you can enhance your highlight videos by adding title slides to share your information, spot shadows or arrows to indicate where you are at in the play, and music synced with your clips. You can also choose which clips and angles you want to include and the order in which the highlights appear. Hudl makes it easy to add all of these enhancements to your highlight video with our Premium Highlight Creator.
In Hudl, coaches and players can make unlimited Premium highlights which can be viewed free of charge. Because of the nature of Premium Highlights, coaches will not be able to burn a DVD of the video themselves. Players and coaches can order a DVD of their premium highlights through Hudl.
Once you have created your enhanced highlights, Hudl makes it easy to share the videos with the team, family or college recruiters with the DVD ordering and E-mail options.
Accessing the Premium Highlight Creator
This tutorial begins with highlights already created on Hudl.com. If you haven’t already created highlights, see the Using Highlights tutorial.
- Access your highlights page by clicking the My Athlete Profile button in the top-right corner of Hudl.com.

Creating Premium Highlights
Once you have accessed the Premium Highlight Creator, making your enhanced highlight reels is quick and easy.
Adding a Title
The first step to creating your Premium Highlight is to add a title.
- Enter a title for the Premium Highlight. You can create multiple Premium Highlights, so your title is important.
- Click the green check mark
to save your title.
- The title of your Premium Highlight will now appear at the top of the Premium Highlight Creator. Click the pencil button to the left of the title and repeat steps 1-2 to edit the title at any time.
Adding Video Clips
Once you have added a title, the Premium Highlight Creator will become completely active. The next step is to add highlight clips.
- The Video tab to the right of the video player will list all of your highlights by season. Each season row will list the season, the number of highlights in the season, and the length of the highlights. Move your mouse over a season, such as 2009 Football, to see the green Add Season button on the right-side of the row. Click the Add Season button to add all of the highlights from the season to the highlight reel. Alternatively, click anywhere else on the season row and drag it to the Drag Stuff Here box of the highlight reel to add all clips from the season.
- If you do not want to add all of the clips from your season to your highlight reel, click and release anywhere on the season row to see the specific games from your season that have highlights.
- The Video tab will now list all of your highlights from the chosen season by game. Each game row will list the opponent, the number of highlights in the game, and the length of the highlights. Move your mouse over a game, such as Hudl High, to see the green Add Game button on the right-side of the row. Click the Add Game button to add all of the highlights from the season to the highlight reel. Alternatively, click anywhere else on the game row and drag it to the Drag Stuff Here box of the highlight reel to add all clips from the game.
- If you do not want to add all of the clips from the game to your highlight reel, click anywhere else on the game to see the specific highlights from the game.
- The Video tab will now list all of your highlight clips from the chosen game. Each clip row will list the clip number, the angle, and the length. Each angle is a separate clip in the Premium Highlight Creator so you can choose exactly what angles you want to include. Preview a clip by clicking the blue play button on the clip’s thumbnail.
- Move your mouse over a clip, such as Clip 2, to see the green Add Clip button on the right-side of the row. Click the Add Game button to add the clip to the end of the highlight reel or click anywhere else on the clip and drag it to the Drag Stuff Here box of the highlight reel to add the clip.

- To return to the game or season view in the Video tab, click the season or All buttons above the clip, game, or season row.
Reordering and Removing Clips
The Premium Highlight Creator lets you easily reorder and remove highlights to your highlight reel at any time.
- To reorder any added clip, click and drag it to the desired location on your highlight reel. An orange bar will appear indicating the location in which you are moving the clip.
- Move your mouse over any clip to see the red Remove Clip button in the top-right corner of the clip. Click the Remove Clip button to remove the clip.
Trimming Clips by Setting Start and Stop Positions
Once you have selected the clips you want to include in your highlight reel, the next step is to trim each clip to the most important part by using start and stop points.
- Begin playing a clip in the video player by clicking on a clip in the highlight reel. Once the video begins playing, two flags will appear on the video timeline - a green flag indicating the start point will appear at the far left side with the text Time the clip with these and a red flag indicating the stop point at the far right side.
- Drag the green flag to the point where you would like the clip to start playing. For instance, you could drag it to the snap of the ball.
- Drag the red flag to the point where you would like the clip to stop playing. For instance, you could drag it right after you score a touchdown or make a big hit.
The start and stop points will automatically save. When you preview or view your highlight, it will now start and stop at the locations you have specified.
Adding Spot Shadows
Now that you have your video added to your highlight reel, the next step is to add spot shadow indicators to highlight yourself in the video.
- Begin playing a clip in the video player by clicking on a clip in the highlight reel. Once the video begins playing, a spot shadow will appear in the top-left corner of the video player asking Where are You?.
- Identify yourself on the play by clicking on the video at the desired location. The Premium Highlight Creator will automatically add a spot shadow at that position. The spot shadow menu will appear next to the location as well. The available indicators include:
- Faded circle - A faded circle spins around the location on the video
- Bouncing circle - A circle bounces on the indicated spot on the video
- Double dashed circles - Two dashed circles spin around the indicated spot on the video
- Radar lock - A radar lock circle hones in on the indicated spot on the video
- Simple arrow - A straight arrow points at the indicated spot on the video
- Swoosh arrow - A swooshed arrow points at the indicated spot on the video
- Adjust the size of the spot shadow by dragging the Size slider right and left.
- Adjust the rotation of the spot shadow by dragging the Rotation slider right and left.
