Video Introduction
The purpose of this tutorial is to walk you through the process of installing Silverlight, and to also inform you of Hudl’s system requirements to use Silverlight.
The video player on Hudl is powered through Silverlight. Without Silverlight, you will not be able to watch video on Hudl.com. The Hudl system requirements for Silverlight are Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Windows 7 for PCs, and Mac OS 10.4.8 or later (Intel based) for Macs.
Microsoft does not offer support for Silverlight 3+ on PowerPC-based Macs (Macs 3 or more years old). You will not be able to install the correct version of Silverlight and watch video on a PowerPC Mac.
- Log into your Hudl account and go to your team’s Library page. From there, you will be prompted to download Silverlight if necessary.
- If you see a video player with the Hudl logo in the middle, you do not need to install Silverlight.
- If you see a dialog that says Oh Snap!, you will need to install Silverlight.
- Click the Get Microsoft Silverlight button found on the prompt within the video screen.
- The resulting page will be the system requirements page. Once you verify that your computer meets both Silverlight’s and Hudl’s requirements, click Installation Instructions, found on the left side of the system requirements page.
- After reading the instructions, click Windows or Macintosh, based on your computer type, under Direct Download Links.
- On the proceeding screens:
- Your browser will prompt you to either run or save the file (Silverlight.exe). Click Run to start the download. When the download is finished, you will get another prompt to run the installer. Click Run to start the installation.
- If your computer uses Windows Vista or Windows 7, you may be prompted for security permission. Follow the prompts to allow the installation to continue.
- Click Install Now after reading the license agreement and privacy statement.
- After installation is complete, you will have to refresh your browser on the Hudl library page to watch video. For some computers, you may need to completely close and reopen the browser for Silverlight to work correctly.
