Description
There are varying levels of firewalls and filters within a school. Some prevent videos from playing and some prevent applications, such as Silverlight, from running. Below is a comprehensive list of things that need to be taken care of before Hudl can work, although some may be unnecessary.
Solution Steps
May be needed for watching video on Hudl.com:
- Need access to Hudl.com
- Need to let Silverlight applications work
- Need to let WMV videos and mp4 videos stream (Most firewalls can let WMV’s and mp4’s stream for just one website. If this is the case, they need to clear it for Hudl.com)
- The videos stream down from http://*.hudl.com/ - these sites will need to be cleared
May be needed if you want to publish or download video using the Hudl Video Editor:
- You will probably need to clear Video Editor (VideoEditor.exe) to make a web request over port 80 (the standard web request port)
- The address that the Video Editor communicates with is at http://www.hudl.com/Services/VideoEditor.svc
- The Video Editor uploads video over port 80 to Amazon S3 to *.s3.amazonaws.com where the * is a list of possible servers. Clearing s3.amazonaws.com should be enough
- If you want to download video from Hudl.com into the Video Editor, you will need to clear http://*.hudl.com/
- Video Editor updates itself from the web, you’ll need to clear http://updates.hudl.com
May be needed if you want to publish video using Hudl Mercury
- You will probably need to clear Hudl Mercury (HudlMercury.exe) to make a web request over port 80 (the standard web request port)
- The address that the Mercury communicates with is at http://www.hudl.com/Services/HudlMercury.svc
- Mercury uploads video over port 80 to Amazon S3 to *.s3.amazonaws.com where the * is a list of possible servers. Clearing s3.amazonaws.com should be enough
- Mercury updates itself from the web, you’ll need to clear http://updates.hudl.com
May be needed to receive sharing and messaging emails from Hudl:
- Whitelist “@hudl.com” through any email filters (such as Barracuda filters)
- Add .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) and .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)
