Using Hudl to Give Rock Star Clinic Presentations

Now that high school and college football season has wound down, it’s time for clinic season to ramp up. For all of our coaches preparing to speak at clinics across the country, Hudl can save you some serious time and help you put together a presentation that will blow away your audience.

We just released the ability to download your presentations so you can easily give them with or without an internet connection. And, we just added the ability to use Hudl with the Smart-Pointer remote ($39 on Amazon.com), so now you can use an Xbox 360 controller or the Smart-Pointer to walk your audience through your slides and video.

Hopefully this post will give you some useful pointers on how to make a sweet clinic presentation in Hudl - a process that will be a lot easier than trying to create and present with a DVD or PowerPoint.

To use Hudl’s presentation feature, you need to be on our Gold or Platinum package. If you are using our Silver package and want to upgrade, contact us and we’ll make it happen. If you haven’t made a presentation in Hudl yet, check out our Using Presentations tutorial to learn how.

Here is the high-level rundown of how to look great at the clinic with Hudl’s help:

1. Create a sweet presentation in Hudl - feel free to contact our support team and use our tutorial if you need help getting the presentation dialed in exactly the way you want. Your presentation can contain any combination of PowerPoint slides, images (e.g. play diagrams, photos, etc.), video clips, and video notes (drawings, text, and voice).
2. Download the presentation - in the Edit Presentation screen, click on the “Download to My Computer” button. Hudl will make a shortcut on your desktop that launches your presentation - no internet necessary. Make sure you do this on the computer you are taking with you to the clinic.
3. Get a Hudl-compatible remote - if you don’t already have an Xbox 360 controller or Smart-Pointer remote, borrow or buy one. Amazon.com is an easy way to do that.
4. Run through your presentation - after you download the presentation, make sure to run through it a couple times (with the remote if you are using one) to make sure it flows the way you want.
5. Wow your audience - with your presentation downloaded and ready to go, all you have to do at the clinic is connect your laptop to the projector or TV, bust out your remote, and show the coaches in the room how vast your knowledge of the game is.

As always, if you need any help putting your presentation together, email or call the support crew. To really make your presentation powerful, take advantage of your ability to add telestrations and text directly on top of your video. When you add the video clip to your presentation, make sure to choose to include those notes. That way, as you go through the presentation and play the video - Hudl will automatically pause at exactly the right moment and display your notes for you. Makes the presentation flow perfectly every time.
