This September release is a huge one for us. Coaches, now that your seasons are underway, we can clearly see areas in Hudl that needed attention. Thanks to you and our support department for highlighting these areas for the development team.
The big, noteworthy changes are:
Escrow “Two-way” Film Exchange
Hudl’s old film exchange was “one-way.” You pick who to trade with and the playlists you want to trade. As soon as you say “Go,” the other team has it. We still let you do things that way but most coaches who trade film regularly need a bit more security.
The new “escrow” exchange starts the same way: you pick a team and what you want to share. But before the other team has full access to your playlist, they have to trade something back. You get to review what they’re willing to exchange and finalize the trade once you’re ready.
Throughout this whole process, you can preview a subset of clips from the exchange to ensure you’re getting the right game and angles. If something isn’t right, just decline their offer and explain why the exchange is no good. You get a chance to “propose” a new exchange—declining an exchange isn’t the end of the world.
Think of this whole process as a real-estate negotiation. You always get a chance to review the offer and nobody gets anything until both sides agree to the deal.

XBox 360 Remote Improvements
We used to have trouble with Mad Catz remotes. Not anymore. They work great!
Also, we added logic to return you to your previous playback state after holding and releasing a button on the remote (like frame forward or slow forward).
Better Report Printing
Report printing no longer sucks. In fact, it’s awesome. Go try it, now.
Instead of relying on the browser to render a printer-friendly report, we convert it into a PDF document. That way, the layout, colors, and organization are all consistent between the online and print versions.
The Rest…
- Highlight video player now has next and previous clip buttons.
- Reset My Password now lets users pick their own instead of supplying cryptic temp. passwords.
- Custom reports now handle up to 8 fields.
- Load from File now filters out non-video files so it’s easier to find what you need to import.
- Only playlist creators can remove clips from their playlists.
- Coaches can delete previously exchanged cutups. This was a bug.
- Your playlists will no longer be named ‘Full Game’ by default. The default name now includes team names and dates.
- Selecting profiles from Video Editor is much more straightforward.
- We improved the publishing workflow from Video Editor to help coaches make better choices. We also improved some of the default settings.
As always, never hesitate to leave us your feedback and comments. Thanks for pushing us to make Hudl better.
