Hudl Helps: Rebuilding Joplin

One year ago today the small community of Joplin, Mo. experienced one of the deadliest tornadoes in this nation’s history. The storm, nearly 1-mile wide, killed 160 people in a matter of minutes.

Head Football Coach, Chris Shields, was new to the program in 2011 and was living about five hours away from Joplin in Wentzville, Mo. when the tornado hit. He turned on the television only to see the house he was moving into in a week was flattened and everything was destroyed. I had the opportunity to catch up with him a few weeks ago to see how the rebuild was coming.

Reminder: We’re heading to Vegas today!

Just a reminder that the entire Hudl team will be leaving for our company-wide retreat to Las Vegas today. We’ll be setting new goals for 2012 and hope to come away with some great ideas for making Hudl even better for our partners.

How this affects you:

We’re going to Vegas!

For the fourth year, the Hudl team will be taking a company-wide retreat to Las Vegas. We’re excited for the chance to take some time to look at the past year and figure out how to make 2012 even better.

What does this mean for you?

Hudl Support Surveys Explained

If you’ve called or emailed us before, chances are you’ve gotten one of our surveys. You might fill it out, you might not. Either way, we take the survey results seriously.

Hudl was created to help coaches win, and in support it’s no different. We look through every single survey, good and bad, and follow up with everyone who has a suggestion or doesn’t get their issue resolved.

If you haven’t seen one before, we ask you to rank us (awesome, average, or awful) on our knowledge, courtesy, and response time. Here are some support stats from 2011:

Six Hudl Partners Claim National Championships

We’re football fanatics around here. There’s nothing better than seeing our favorite teams winning championships, except maybe when we know that they were using Hudl to Dominate during the season.

We want to congratulate five national champion partners who finished the 2011 college football season on winning notes:

Boise State: Behind the Scenes and on the Field

Boise State and TCU. Both of these teams are very successful non-BCS teams. Going into this game, Boise had a 65-game home-winning streak, they hadn’t lost in Boise in more than 13 years when I rolled into town. As a fan, I was not only excited to see the blue turf field, but also to see the creative offenses that both teams employ. From a coaching perspective, I focused on two aspects of their program:

  • Their pre-game routine the day before the game
  • Their impressive shift game

Hudl Champions Round II

Here it is - the final list of Hudl Partners who won state championships this season. It’s awesome to see what so many Hudl teams have accomplished. Big congrats to all of them.

Check out the list. Did your favorite team make it?

End to Weekend Support and Upcoming Office Closures

Thanks to all of our coaches who have made this a fun season.

We wanted to let everyone know that we will no longer be offering weekend support for Silver and Gold partners this season. Platinum support will remain the same.

In addition, we will also be closed for the holidays on the following dates:

Hudl Champions Round I

We’ve been cheering teams on from Lincoln as we kept an eye on their playoff progress this season. Congrats to all the teams who earned a state champion title this year.

Pat yourselves on the back for all your hard work this season. Here is round one of the Hudl State Champions. If you don’t see your team on this list, watch for it in round two.

Fear the Fork: My ASU Trip

For my Hudl trip, I decided to pack my bags and take on the heat of Arizona to watch Arizona State take on USC. This choice was confusing for my coworkers considering I’ve proudly earned the name “Sweet Ginger” in the office for my red hair and fair skin, but I bucked conventional wisdom and embraced the sun to watch this Hudl battle with some old friends.

Hudl Employee Perks: Jets vs. Cowboys

Jets versus Cowboys on Sunday Night Football.

New York’s team versus America’s team on the 10th Anniversary of September 11th. Rex Ryan versus Rob Ryan on the first Sunday of football.

The build-up for a football game doesn’t get much better than that.
And the game didn’t disappoint either (for us Jets fans anyway).

Friday Motivation: Nation’s Oldest Football Player

Alan Moore is more than just a non-traditional student. At 61, he’s also the nation’s oldest active football player. Moore, a Vietnam veteran, is a place kicker for the Faulkner University (Montgomery, Ala.) Eagles football team. He played football at Holmes Community College in Mississippi in 1960 before leaving for Vietnam.

Video: Breakdown of Coach Joe Reed’s Win vs. Pleasant Plains

Offensive Coordinator Joe Reed and the Athens football team went into halftime last week during their game against Pleasant Plains 6 - 0. Pleasant Plains was playing strong, and they hadn’t been able to get anything past them.

The second half gave the Warriors a chance to redeem themselves. So what happens when you’re down 8 - 7 in the 4th quarter, and you need a big play to get your team into opponent territory to score?

USC Trojans Use Hudl iPad App to Prepare

When the Hud iPad app launched in spring 2011, the Trojans started using Hudl extensively to keep coaches connected while on the road recruiting.

It was clear that the instant access to their video was valuable to the Trojans.  During spring practices, coaches were able to study practice footage and create cutups with video notes to share immediately to their players online.
