Countdown to Tip-Off

Forget the NBA Finals – Tuesday is a much bigger day in the eyes of Hudlies, as 14 teams will endure a day-long double-elimination 3-on-3 basketball tournament in downtown Lincoln. We will begin bright and early at 7 a.m., with 25 games leading up to the Championship at 5:30 p.m.

Team entries came fast and fierce when the tournament was announced two weeks ago, and there may have been some under-the-table negotiating for former college basketball players like Tyler DeBoer and Ryan Stubbe. Another hot prospect was Kyle Murphy, one of the top minds behind New Hudl for Basketball. Murphy’s team will kick off the tournament against DeBoer’s squad in the opener at 7 a.m.

Then there’s HR Recruiter Todd Prauner. He just submitted his own team of Hudl stars without gaining prior commitment from anyone. He called it the “power play” approach. We have yet to hear from those he claimed as “teammates”.

The six first-round matchups will be complete by 9:30 a.m, but the forecast calls for temperatures in the mid-80s. The league expects that to wear down some of the weaker teams throughout a long day of basketball.

Brew’s Faceplant

Eric Broulette is easily the most photogenic Hudlie to date. His smile can light up a room and his friendly disposition radiates in every Kodak lucky enough to capture even the tiniest glimpse of him.

We lovingly refer to him as Brew. Some people don’t even know Eric is his real name. You really do learn something new every day, huh?

Long story short, Brew joined Hudl a little over two years ago and spends his days keeping Coach Relations in line. He claims to love his job and says he can’t imagine doing anything else. Except maybe playing professional sports. But he doesn’t even really like sports that much.

Hudl’s Hitting the Hardwood

If you assume summer marks the end of basketball, you couldn’t be more wrong.

The Hudl office is just getting ramped up for one of our most exciting developments in company history: New Hudl for Basketball. If you attended any of our Hudl Up Tour stops, you may have seen a sneak peek of what’s coming down the pipe, and hopefully you are as excited as everyone here.

To get everyone else pumped, we’re going to hit you with a lot of basketball material over the coming months.

Hot Dogs and a Healthy Lifestyle

Morgan Hohbein is sneaky. She does all kinds of stuff around the Hudl office, but you wouldn’t know unless you were really paying attention. Yeah, she’s a rockstar when it comes to supporting coaches, but the girl dabbles in account management and participates in all kinds of interoffice activities on top of those phone and email-answering duties.

None of this comes as a surprise to anyone who knows Morgan. See, she also puts together the monthly Healthy Hudlie newsletter. It’s chock-full of tips for nutritious eating, quick workouts, and community events focused on fitness. And she’s the one writing it because she actually lives it.

This isn’t anything new. Get a glimpse at her life story and you’ll see she’s always had a thing for staying actively busy.

Slow Clap for Matt

Matt Munger hasn’t been at Hudl too long - about six months, if we’re getting specific - but he’s already making waves with all things football. That makes him pretty great in our book.

The high-quality work he produces is cranked out at a pace most likely set by Daft Punk. Rumor has it the duo is featured as his computer’s wallpaper. But as an upbeat group of people, we pass no judgment.

Rumor also has it that he’s one of the youngest software engineers here, if not the actual baby.

Mind. Blown.

From Bacon to Fundraising

John Prauner has been part of the business development team for about five months now. He hopped on board in December as the brains of our new fundraising operation, and it would be hard to deny the impact he’s made. Our Insider Accounts are in full swing and Campaigns are on the horizon. JP is more excited than anyone.

Which is great, because the only reason we hired him in the first place was to keep his younger brothers, Seth and Todd, in line. It’s nice to see everyone coming out on top.

Especially considering John was previously employed at a bacon factory, and you can’t beat bacon. You just can’t.

Don’t Make Eric Wait for Concessions

Eric Clymer has been with Hudl for nearly five years. He started as a QA contractor when he was just a freshman at UNL, then he moved on to QA Intern, then Development Intern, and now he’s a full-time Software Engineer.

He works primarily with the Fan team doing all things highlights, so he thoroughly enjoys the process of creating and sharing them. He really just enjoys sharing any and all links possible. You’d never guess by the answers he provided, though.

It’s 2013 and we still don’t have a font for sarcasm. (Comic Sans?)

You can criticize his linkage all you want, but if you place any value on your own life, never question the man’s Nebraska fandom. His claim to fame is only missing one home football game in the last 18 years:

Allie Bit My Finger

Allie Harman joined the Hudl team in January 2011 as a member of our Internal Sales team that doesn’t go by ‘Internal Sales’ anymore. (We like to change titles pretty regularly. Don’t worry about it.)

Now, she’s part of the business development team and number one baller in Hudl for Club & Youth. Ask her about our new Basic and Elite packages and you’ll be amazed by how good she is at her job.

Outside the office walls, Allie is doing something Husker-y. Whether it’s attending a game or just wearing one of her million Nebraska pullovers, the girl bleeds Husker red. And I mean that literally - she cut her finger earlier this week and I saw it. Sorry if you’re squeamish, we’ll get to the good stuff:

It’s a Bird! It’s a Plane! It’s Jake.

Jake Mullins is a Quality Assurance Analyst. That means he’s dedicated to making sure Hudl does what it’s supposed to and then some. He’s been with the product team for two years this month and, though he complains about his muggle upbringing, he’s 100% Hudl wizard.

When he’s not at work, Jake’s busy obsessing over superheroes. And when we say obsessing, we mean he’s so consumed by Clark Kent and company, it could be at the disease level.

But that’s totally fine, because he’s basically our product team Superman. Just keep reading to learn more about this man of steel and kid at heart:

Jason has all of his teeth now

Jason West joined Hudl coach support in June 2012 and it didn’t take long for people to like him. Really, the main reason he’s this week’s Hudlie is because he’s zero percent diva and assured us he can be himself even in the spotlight.

He’s the resident pro on all things baseball, so if you sign up for one of those training sessions, you’re guaranteed to learn a thing or two.

When it comes to Jason, just know his excited voice is eerily similar to his calm voice. Not to say that’s a bad thing; just a heads-up to read this entire thing in monotone for the full effect.

You Should Poke Tom

Coach Support Specialist Tom Grant joined the Hudl team in January 2013 and has been crushing it in his first few months. He hit the ground running and we haven’t really been able to contain him since he was released from New Hire Training.

Whether he’s handling remote sessions or fielding calls, the dude makes a mission of helping coaches win.

When he’s not busy at the office, he’s watching or listening to any game in progress. He has a favorite team for almost every sport and plenty of favorite athletes whom he’d love to talk about whenever you get a minute. Until then, he’ll fill you in on life and stuff:

Toby Schroder Knows Design

Toby Schroder is a product designer with a year or ten of experience. At one point, he ran his own design firm just across the street from where he’s working now. You know, in the Haymarket. In Lincoln. Across from 8th and P Streets.

Anyway, he gets things done and we love him for it, but when he’s not busy making Hudl look awesome, he’s spending time with his wife and kids. You should ask to see pictures of his kids. Really. Most of the time people just shove them in your face and you’re all like, “Seriously, your child looks like every other one I’ve seen.” But the Schroders know how to do Halloween. That’s all I’ll say.

Hudl does Vegas

Safe to say we’re pretty excited to head to Las Vegas this weekend for our company-wide retreat. We head out Friday morning and get back late Monday.

You never know what kind of phone situation a hotel will provide, so here’s what’s going down while we’re gone:

Lyndsey Howe IS Planes, Trains and Automobiles

Lyndsey’s been a member of the Hudl Sales Team for exactly two years and one month. The tricky part is that she spends more time on the road than in the actual office - she’s been in Nebraska a total of 20 days in 2013.

The girl may as well become a pilot and fly herself, she travels so much.

But that’s not why we like Lyndsey. She gets stuff done and doesn’t let anything get in her way - unless it’s pollen season. She can take on a room full of the toughest coaches without breaking a sweat; but throw some flowers in her face and she’s completely incapacitated.

Tyler Bell-Krzyzewski

In honor of the glorious return of March Madness, we turned to one of our biggest basketball fans for Hudlie of the Week.

Tyler Bell joined Coach Support in June 2012 and we knew he was trouble from the start. With fake screen names and scary Photoshop skills, he quickly earned the title of office prankster.

Tyler switched roles late last year and now spends his day as an account manager. All that really means is his list of targets has grown. Nobody is safe.
