Help Us Celebrate 5,000

It’s an exciting time here in the Hudl office. As of Saturday we hit our sales goal of 5,000 schools using Hudl! This number means a lot to us. We set a goal last year to reach this number, and it’s awesome that we have hit that goal sooner than expected.

We would like to take this week to thank everyone who has supported Hudl since we released the product three years ago. Without coaches guiding our development and helping us make a better product for them, it wouldn’t have been possible.

Only Two Days Left to Save 10% on Hudl

Haven’t tried Hudl yet? Don’t miss your opportunity to save 10% on the package of your choice. Sign up by Wednesday, May 25, 2011 and pay by Saturday, June 25 to save.

Who Let These Guys Out in Public?

Once in awhile it’s nice to get out of the day-to-day grind and gain some additional motivation from people who are doing awesome things. That opportunity came last week when several of us from the Hudl office traveled an hour east to sit through two days of great speakers at Big Omaha. We promised we wouldn’t make too big of a scene while we were there.

Big Omaha is an annual conference where innovators from across the United States as well as other countries gather to share ideas and gain inspiration. This is the third year of the conference, and it only seems to be getting more popular.

Use MaxPreps to Gain Exposure for Your Team

As many of you already know, Hudl partnered with MaxPreps last year to continue to help save coaches time and gain more exposure for their teams. MaxPreps is America’s leading source for high school sports information. They work directly with more than 35,000 high school coaches to record, preserve, and publish schedules, scores, and stats on hundreds of thousands of high school athletes.

We’re Here, There, and Everywhere

Our kick-off to the 2011 sales season at this year’s AFCA convention down in Dallas was a success. Thanks to all you coaches who came by the booth or hung out with us post clinic. Like always, we had a blast.

In case we won’t be seeing you at any of upcoming clinics in February, we wanted to make sure you knew what was on our March travel calendar.

Jim Mora, Jim McClurg Join Hudl Board

We’re excited to announce two additions to our board of directors: Jim McClurg and Jim Mora Jr.

McClurg has been involved with the company in some form since it began, and Mora Jr. has worked with our exec team since 2007. It’s great for them to officially join the Hudl team.

The two new additions bring our board to seven members. Both McClurg and Mora celebrate a long list of accolades, and we’re excited to have their talents on board.

Clinic Season is Here. Will we see you there?

We’re sending people across the country in the coming weeks. If you haven’t yet, come meet us at a clinic where we can show you Hudl in action. Also, rumor has it there’s some free Hudl swag for the taking!

Here are the clinics we will be attending in the coming weeks:

What We’re Reading

We’re all bookworms in this office. We admit it. When we’re not working, we’re generally plowing through a slew of books or digging into our favorite sports blogs online. We bore through them like jackhammers and then recommend them to other team members to read.

As we head into the downtime for the Thanksgiving holiday, some of the Hudl team members are sharing their favorite books and blogs. Whether you’re trying to pump up your brainpower or are just looking for good entertainment, we’ve a got a solid list of recommendations for coaches, players, and fellow geeks alike:

Hudl Multi-Sport Discount

Is your sport the only one at your school currently using Hudl? Did you know Hudl offers significant discounts to schools that sign up multiple sports? The first sport is full price and the next two sports are each half price. Any additional sports beyond those are free. Split the cost evenly between all your sports, and that means big savings for your team.

Once your first team gets on board, you can add teams within that sport. Did you sign up for basketball? Your varsity men’s and women’s teams can all get in the Hudl for one price. We have several different sports using Hudl for their teams, each with their own way of breaking down video.

What 50,000 Coaches Can Teach You About Running a Business

Coaches are required to play multiple roles. Just when they’ve finished one job, it’s on to the next. On top of all that, they have to be great communicators in order to get one message across to multiple players and coaches. While they’re being Jack of All Trades, they act as upstanding role models for their athletes and the community. They are the face of the team. It’s a tough job, and it takes a special person to do it. Still, year after year, amazing coaches lead athletes to personal and team victories. They aren’t there for the job, they are there to make a difference.

Over the past few months it has hit me just how much coaches not only shaped my days as an athlete, but also shaped my perspective on how to build a great business.

Hudl Teams with XOS Digital

We’re excited to officially announce our partnership with XOS Digital, the leading provider of video editing tools for NFL, NBA, NHL and NCAA Division I teams.

We’ve worked closely with XOS’ products to provide online coaching tools for our teams, since we started in 2006. While Hudl is an end-to-end video capture, editing, and online sharing and analysis tool, Hudl Pro is designed to provide only the online component. Instead of using Hudl Video Editor, our Hudl Pro teams use systems like XOS Thunder to handle all their video capture, editing and break down.

Common Questions About Storage Limits

One of the distinguishing factors between the Silver, Gold, and Platinum packages in Hudl is storage hours for your opponent scout and practice footage. Those numbers can be a bit confusing, if they come with no explanation.

We’ve put together a list of the most common questions we get regarding storage limits. Hopefully this will help explain exactly how those storage hours work in.

Happiness Delivered: Our Visit to Zappos

Earlier this month, a group of us from the Hudl team (Sarah Armstrong, Bryant Bone, Todd Prauner, Kiley Story, and I) were out in VEGA$ with friends and had the opportunity to tour the headquarters of Zappos. It was awesome.

I am a long-time fan of Zappos and a “Zappos VIP” (free overnight shipping on everything!). I personally hate going to the mall, so online shopping has been my solution for years. What made me addicted to Zappos, as opposed to other sites, was their incredible customer service.

We base a lot of our customer service efforts on the same principles that guide Zappos. Hopefully everyone who contacts us has a WOW experience every time they call us or meet us on the road. Zappos has a few guidelines for instilling customer service into their company and it was great to see how closely we follow them:

Frequently Asked Questions, Answered by the Hudl Billing Department

Every school in Hudl will eventually see this notification pop up in their Hudl account at least once a year:

We know that coaches would rather focus on football than invoices and purchase orders. Like conditioning drills, billing is a crucial part of the process, even if it isn’t a cause for much excitement.

Our job in the billing department is to make the billing process as simple and pain-free as possible for coaches. Below is a list of frequently asked questions regarding billing that might be helpful for you.  You can also check out our tutorial for more information on accessing your invoices online.

Hudl Partners with Pete Carroll’s Win Forever Academy

Have you ever wanted to attend a football camp and be pushed to improve by premiere NFL and college coaches? The Win Forever Academy gives you that chance.

The Win Forever Academy opens June 28th, 2010 at the Home Depot Center in Los Angeles, Calif. with the Win Forever Festival, a football camp for athletes from all positions ranging from grades 9 through 12. Each athlete will be given the ultimate competitive experience and will be coached by top-level NFL coaches and players including Pete Carroll, Matt Cassel, Matt Leinart, and more.
