News from Hudl - September 2009

Choose your playback angle

Our Sept. 2009 In the Hudl Newsletter is now out.

In this month’s issue you can learn how to choose just the camera angle you want while on Hudl.com or how to exchange film through our improved escrow video exchange process. Read up on our new partnership with the Minnesota Golden Gophers or check out how a high school wrestling program in Wichita used Hudl to dominate on the mats and send their athletes off with full-ride scholarships to NCAA Division I schools.

Burning Multiple Playlists to a DVD

Despite the convenience of having video on Hudl.com, sometimes you just need to get your video onto a DVD. Whether it is for exchanging film with someone that doesn’t use Hudl (if you’ve used our film exchange you know how inconvenient trading DVDs can be) or for sending film to recruiters, Hudl’s built-in DVD burning can get a playlist from Hudl onto a DVD in no time at all.

Wouldn’t it be convenient if you could get multiple playlists, like a highlight reel followed by a full game, onto one DVD? Well, with just a few extra steps you can!

Hudl Named Official Technology Sponsor of Nike Coach of the Year Clinics

Nike Coach of the Year Logo

We are proud to announce a partnership with the NIKE Coach of the Year Clinic in which Hudl will serve as the official technology sponsor of the 2010 Nike COY Clinic.

Coaching clinics have been a great way for us to connect with coaches around the nation and to enable them to experience the power of Hudl firsthand. We had an awesome experience at the Nike COY clinics in 2009 and we are excited to have a presence at all 20 Nike COY clinics across the nation in 2010.

Trimming Your Clips in Hudl—A Major Time Saver for the Whole Team

When it comes to using Hudl to break down your games - taking a little extra time upfront to trim the fat from your video clips can save you hours the rest of the week. Hudl makes this process pretty quick and painless, and we have a couple tips that will make cleaning up your game film even easier.

Streaming End Zone Video to the Press Box like the Pros…on a Budget

More and more football teams are recording video of their games from both the press box and the end zone. Having the end zone angle is an incredible asset and Hudl makes it a piece of cake to load your end zone video after the game and match it up with the sideline video.

Escrow Exchange, Remote and Printing Improvements

Escrow two-way video exchange

This September release is a huge one for us. Coaches, now that your seasons are underway, we can clearly see areas in Hudl that needed attention. Thanks to you and our support department for highlighting these areas for the development team.

The big, noteworthy changes are:

Creating Team Highlights in Hudl

You probably already know about Hudl’s amazing highlight system and how it helps your players create their own highlight videos (if you don’t, then go check it out! Hudl: Create Highlight Videos), but you may not know that you can use Hudl to build your team’s highlight video as well.

Creating your team’s highlight is easy and something you can do anytime you are watching film in Hudl. Instead of rewatching games for your team’s end-of-season banquet and copying video from one DVD to another, you can quickly and easily build your team’s highlight video in Hudl each week.

You Deleted My What?

Google Checkout Copy Fail

So, I’m messing around with my personal settings for Google Checkout and I noticed this little copywriting gem.

The keyword is “instrument” and given the context, it’s not all that confusing. But, if you take a step back and just read that sentence to yourself, it sounds really weird.

Hudl Camera Recommendations

Coaches: we’ve updated the recommended list of cameras for the Spring of 2011

One of the most common questions we get asked is “what kind of camera should I use with Hudl?” The answer depends on whether or not you’re going to use Hudl to capture footage as it’s happening, or if you’re planning on bringing video into Hudl after the game is over. Either way, we’ve got you covered. Below you’ll find a list of solid, reasonably priced cameras that’ll work in either live capture or post-game situations.
